I'm just so fucking fickle when it comes to tone. One day I want a Mesa sound, the next a Modded Marshall, after that.....and then....

you get the idea. Anyways, I'm thinking about going back to a rack set-up, well a couple. That way preamps and poweramps would be interchangable, and I could swap out depending on my tonal needs.

should I do it?

I'm thinking about starting off with the ADA MP1 3TM and a Mesa power amp. Then maybe VHT or something along those lines.....

i said yeah. i like heads myself, but once i am happy with my tone, i stick with it for quite awhile. pretty much until i'm doing something or wanting a sound my current gear can't produce.

if you change your mind alot, i think it'll be easier to just change out a preamp or power amp and most of the time cheaper...depending on what you go with of course.

man, usually i would say an emphatic no; but, i tried a rocktron prophecy in sam ash last weekend, and was shocked how amp like it was. i didn't even mess with the effects, the amp settings were so sweet.

Do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit :)

I just scored a 2nd mp1...for $100 :D Unit has a few issues that need fixin but the seller says it works/sounds fine.

man i used to be a die hard rack fan but in the past 2 months or so i've gone completely back to a head setup.

they both have their advantages (esp when you are into 1 sound on monday and then a completely dif. sound on tuesday) but it seems like rack would work best for you. i mean come on, you had a mark IV and couldn't stay happy! :D

well 30+ years of playing without a Rack
is hard to choose weather i need one or not

but when i met DUKE OF METAL on another site
hes a tone chaser :o so i figured id start with my own setup
and gradually inprovise the changes id need

im still shocked with mine
the only peice ive changed so far is out with the ART SGX effects unit
and in with the DIGITECH S 100 unit

i tend to get a tube power amp someday
and get rid of the Crate SPA 300
which tends to add distortion when you crank it up

im looking to get a Moded MP1 someday :)

I've had the

MP-1 3TM in the past and sold it like an idiot, talk about an awesome unit.

JMP-1 was killer for Marshall tones (of course)

Triaxis LOVED IT!!!! (still regret getting rid of it by far my favorite Mesa piece)

I want to try.
VHT GP3
Langner DCP-1 ( I want this one so bad I can taste it)
Triple Giant (modded to the Fish by Voodoo, Cant afford the Fish)
Hughes and Kettner Access

and several others I'd like to at least try out.

My favourite tone ive had was from a Marshall JMP-1.
I have gone back and forth over the years from rack to head and back again but I always have my trusty JMP-1...that thing sounds killer and I will always use it in some way or another. I just sold my Mesa 2:90 yesterday so I can help pay off the JVM head that I have coming but I still have my Marshall 9200 if I ever decide to go back. For versatility, it is hard to beat a rack but there is something about using a head that just feels better to me at least for now!!

I think both would be a good idea. Get a versitile head that you like, and run a rack as well, so when your traveling or something, you've got the simple head/cab setup, and you've also got a nice rack to play with (hahaha)

Get a JMP-1 and Mesa Quad and get an EL-34 and 6L6 power amp and you then have both and imo no way could you get sick of that many tone options.

I dont do alot of traveling and my gear stays pretty much at home, or at rehearsal. I dont have a problem with moving stuff around, just doesnt bother me like it does some people.

But I really like the idea of swapping out pre's and power amps, or eventually getting a Bradshaw switcher sometime.....

I'm not a big effects guy so something like the G-force would be perfect, because It would have everything I would ever use.

I'd say if your really looking for versatility, A Triaxis and a MP1 with 2 different power amps (6L6 and EL34), and a G-Force all MIDI controlled would suit you nice. Maybe get a Ground Control Pro too.

that's not very smart at all

Do what you like, that's one thing I love about guitars and amps, constant tweaking.

In your place I might consider an Egnater MOD50 or 100 with various modules.

I thought about those too, I actually played anice RM100 in Camo, looked cool, sounded alright, didnt really get to crank it and see what she could do.

I still like the whole rack idea.....

I have not played any of the MTS series amps or modules yet because I have not seen any local. So I can't comment about it, but if you liked the RM100 but wanted to still go with rack they make this as well.
