I'm thinking about saving up for a used Bogner Ecstasy 101B cause I'm looking to get into a working cover band. The styles I've played are classic/hard rock/metal but am open to different styles as well and the Ecstasy seems like an overall versatile amp for gigging just curious on the reliability?

I'm trying to sell other gear right now but I might sell my Marshall Artist 3203 head, original footswitch and peavey 2 button footswitch that was moddified to work with the head towards one as well. I also have the matching 4x10 Marshall angled cab that came with the Artist but I don't know if I want to sell that or not. I have a Mesa tremoverb converted to a head but it's hard to keep at a decent volume level especially for gigging and I'm really using it right now with my original band.

Any Ecstacy owners want to chime in?

The 101b is super versatile and will fit those styles perfectly, as long as you aren't planning on doing extremely aggressive modern styles. It can do the sludgy grind thing and pull off a tight thrash tone and some "Nu-Metal", but it's not gonna pull off Periphery or that type of sound.

The clean channel is beautiful and the blue crunch channel is pretty much perfection as far as I'm concerned. The red channel has it's pros and cons, but overall it's a hot somewhat British sounding Marshall-like sound with less roar and less upper mid punch, and more chewy low-mid grind.

I say go for it. They're great amps and are very well built. Reliable for sure!

Was a previous owner go for it, 101B's are at their lowest average used market price that I've personally seen in quite awhile.

I assume it was a combination of the downturn in the economy and the release of the 20th anniversary model but I'm sure there might be other variables in play as well.

The only problem I had with mine were a few of the LED's on the footswitch started fritzing out and prevented me from being able to change channels properly and engage the fx loop.

Replacement's at radioshack fixed that.

The amp should be able to cover the tones you listed fine, and if you find that you are just short of getting a modern metal type tone you can always use a boost or eq pedal to kick it up a little.

the xtc is an awesome amp, it can deff pull off metal well ... has tons of gain on the red channel and gets pretty damn brutal in the right hands

ive seen them selling for like 1800 bucks too, and honestly ive been tempted to grab one

its alot of amp for that money

bogner stuff rules

xtc 101b is a nice amp, i owned one back in 2006 and i really liked it.

I've been doin' the cover (Glam Metal, classic rock, disco, dance, Modern) thing with a 101b for a few years now and It is by far the best amp for the application IMO. The blue channel is awesome. The only thing I can't do is that pushed AC 30 or Class A thing(I don't have the A/AB switch). I can get close but it requires to much knob fiddlin' to go back and forth. Get one and your search for an all inclusive amp is done.

It will get the job done for what you plan on using it. I love mine....

I would not hesitate for a second to buy one. I just got a 2011 101B brand new and it sounds fantastic and has become a permanent member of the amp family. It can do any style in my opinion, yes, even brutal metal; you just need to tinker with the settings.

I thought I saw somewhere that both guitarists of Five Finger Death Punch use the Bogner Exstacy 101B
