Thinking about selling my diezel Blueface and Superbass

As most of you know I'm a big fan of Tool and Adam Jones.
I've have lots of fun playing them and doing Tool covers over the years.

However, I just moved into a quite neighborhood...new house is a ranch as well so loud playing isn't really an option.

I have tried the vh4 with my attenuator and it doesn't sound good at all, same with my Superbass.
Just tones of mud and muffed mess!

I have a torpedo live on the way so I will wait to see if that works with headphone use and silent recording, if it doesn't I think it's time to cut these amps loose and buy a collectors choice Les Paul and just use my 87 Jubilee for all jamming and maybe a Friedman be-100.

I am just talking here because I have been trying to make a decision for a few weeks now.

What do you guys think?

Exactly what the torpedo live is for. I will be getting one soon as well.

This right here. If that doesn't work, sell them and get a Kemper or AxeFX.

I agree with you , I don't like attenuators either.

I think the VH4 has a great master volume. , no attenuator needed.

Will you still enjoy playing without the VH4 and super bass?

So with the "Tool rig" I feel it's a one trick pony.
With my jubilee I've become a better player, I am learning some GNR and trying to learn scales and "understand" the guitar more so than just play drop d Tool covers.

Maybe I'm just over the Tool playing as its a bit boring for me at this stage in my life?

Not that much of a Diezel fan, although I know they are world class amps....but....I think you will regret it. The superbass might be easier to replace, but I know enough about VH4s to know how rare that model is. Just save your cash and get something to add if you want. I have my 2C+ slaved to a strategy 400, and a crank it with the windows open for 20 minute bursts....and I live with very close neighbors. I'm sure your neighbors will be cool with the occasional burst of volume. Just my 2 cents. Sucks having gear regrets!

I bought a Torpedo Reload instead of the Live. I can still use the PC to use an IR. The attenuator is better than any I have ever heard but still not perfect, IMO. It is not bad at all if you play with the contour knob but still not exactly replicated. However, it's certainly acceptable for playing in my office. I don't really play out live anymore... so it's not a huge deal. If I happen to get that going again, I will likely pick up the Live. In a snap, I could literally just bring my laptop and one of my interfaces to make up the difference between the 2 devices.

I also decided to trade my Rectoverb for an old school early 90s rack with an ADA MP-2, Alesis Quadraverb and a Peavey Classic 50/50. I also ordered an ART SGX 2000 w/ X15 footswitch. I think I might be going old school this winter. I used to LOVE the sound I got from those rack effects and the MP-1 I had. Brings back memories when I was swimming in hairspray, eye liner and spandex with short boots. I had so much fun back then.

Dibs on the blueface.

As of know I have a pretty good offer, if I sell it I will review all offers...
Feel free to pm me your best offer.

Make sure you explore all your options. Seriously, that rig will be hard to replace if you ever decide to try and buy it back. Hopefully the Torpedo works out for you.

If not, it would be a fantastic idea to buy a Kemper, profile the Diezel and the Superbass and make sure they're perfect replication, then sell the amps. That way you still have that sound if you want it and you have countless models and stuff to choose from.

My two cents.

I say get rid of it and continue exploring those raw unproduced jubilee tones,, you're going in the right direction- Slash is a great player.

Bummer to hear, Jon. You might just be stuck in a rut. Sometimes I sell stuff and don't miss it. Other times it's a bad mistake. And with the Blueface, it'll be hard to find another one if you regret it. But I suspect you know whether you'll really miss it or not.

Diezels do have a great master volume, but that amp becomes sublime when turned up loud, and in a way no other Diezel I've played. So it can be a bit frustrating, because you know if only you could crank it a bit...

Wait for the Torpeodo and then think it over. It might be the answer. Otherwise, the Jubilee certainly is a world-class amp, too.

If you just want to practice with your Diezel at low volumes with the two notes live into headphones you are in for a big let down. You will NOT get the same tones that you know and love.

Two notes may be good for recording with multi guitar tracks layered up. BUT if you can't play loud just get rid of the Diezel and get something software based like Amplitube which sounds pretty good from what I have heard.

I think that's the second time you've said I'm in for a big let down with the torpedo live.

As players you start out mimicking others,
It's not bad, its what starts that spark to play.
And it can be a lot of fun.

If lucky you outgrow it and start to develop your own thing ,
make your style, create your tone.

Maybe you can look at it like that?

That's what I am thinking...
I am playing "slash like" but not playing his songs all the time.
I should say I'm trying to play slash style lol

I was in a similar situation and gave modeling a shot. This may work great for you - a lot of people love them. But just to offer a differing point of view, I couldn't get a single sound out of the Kemeper I liked close to as much as my SLO set on 0.5 volume. Definitely my biggest gear regret.

I've never really been able to get my VH4 out of 1st gear at home either. Less than 9am on the master.

I switched one out for similar reasons, only to seriously regret my decision down the line.
You might struggle to acquire another blue-face if you let it go.

You might want to look at a used AxeFX standard for quiet practice. They go pretty cheap now & still sound great.

Real amps through a nice loadbox with cab simulation is a lot better than the Axe Standard or Ultra in my book, at least when going DI to headphones or desk. I was very disappointed with the Ultra I had, and was pleasantly surprised how at home I felt with the Palmer ADIG I tried with my heads just after. Is it just like standing in the room with a 4X12", not at all, but it is close enough to listening to a microphone close to a speaker through headphones like in a typical recording situation.

Attenuators only work well when shaving off a bit from normal levels, they can´t really do the quiet thing without mushing the tone.
