Thinking of putting tiger stripes on my Flying V

So I took the finish off the back of the neck the other day on my flying V . I have done this on 3 other guitars in the past but I always did it by sanding . This time I did it with stripper .
It was SOOO much easier than sanding . So I'm thinking about adding tiger stripes.
I added the home made pick guard a few years back and also added a second volume knob and a coil tap switch. If I decided to go through with the stripes I'll take the guard off and the extra knob and coil tap switch and fill all the holes.
I'm a novice at finishing guitars .At first I was thinking of stripping the whole guitar painting it black. Masking the stripes then spraying the white . Then I realized since its already white I could just mask the whole guitar and cut the stripes out and spray the black on . if I did it this way I would have to make sure the black covered the filled holes but I don't think that would be a problem.

thoughts ?

here are some pics of the guitar as it is now.

Love the Floyd!

Getting a finish right is all about the prep work. If you’re painting a solid color, I would NOT strip it to bare wood. Take advantage of Gibson’s prepwork.

What I’d probably do if I wanted a really nice looking refinish, is do what you have to to fill the holes. Then scuff the entire existing finish and spray either a primer or just more white if you know the black will go over the filled holes, then tape off and paint the black stripes.

Trying to spray white stripes over black probably would be harder to get the white to completely cover the underlying black.

Thanks for the advice , as for the floyd Gibson should wake up and make more V's and explorer's with floyds. This one was from 2011 they made these and explorers and its super hard to find one for sale and when you do they aren't cheap.

With all due respects, tiger stripes painted on by someone who isn't practiced at painting guitars sounds like a very regrettable move. (of course, I think any tiger stripes on a guitar is a regrettable move..so what do I know?..)

I'm a product of the 80's what can I say I love tiger stripes.

While I'm no expert I'm not a complete newbe at painting guitars. I have built and painted 2 warmoths that turned out good.

Yeah... I'm a product of the 80s, too... and I love tiger stripes... and zebra stripes... :)

If you do this, please post pics!

I don’t think painting necessarily is difficult. But it really requires patience and forcing yourself to put in the prep work. So you just have to be honest with yourself about whether you’re really going to put in the effort to do it right. If yes: there’s really no reason it can’t turn out great.

almost finished with the neck. I cut the "Stinger" out yesterday and applied the first coat of oil. gonna do 2 more coats of oil ,one today and one tomorrow then wax it. I would be through by now but I got sidetracked working on the boat.
Probably gonna start on the stripes in the next few weeks.

Nice!

Yeah, that's turning out nice! I bet having the raw neck is going to be a great addition.
