And getting an Orange Rockerverb. It just seems like a simple, yet great sounding amp. I mostly play metal, and need a real good distortion. There's not Orange dealers around, but of all the clips and videos I've heard, they always sound great. Any Orange owners care to shed some light on the matter? :)

Oh, and also a nice, full-sounding clean channel. I have no problems with the Roadster whatsoever, but I've been GASsing for an Orange for a long fucking time.

That's one of the amps I've never played, I've always wanted to check them out but never see them in any shops! Lots of people really like them, they have a quality I'm not wild about in which they seem to kind of have a looser/fuzzier sound than I prefer but it just depends on what your ears are looking for, and again I only can say that from clips I've heard so they can probably be dialed out of that anyway. But I'm sure those rockverbs kick ass.

Just checked out some videos on YouTube and holy shit that amp sounds good (as far as YouTube videos go). Who would have though that Orange can deliver the brootalz?

They seem to be great at doing high gain without any pedals. I also recently saw Jim Root's gear tour and saw that he was using RV100's. That didn't help much for the GAS.

If you really want teh brootz from an Orange, skip the Rockerverb and check out the Thunderverb!

I was always under the impression that the Rockerverb has more gain on tap than the Thunderverb? I could be wrong but im pretty sure thats the case.

James Root of Slipknot went to Orange Rockerverbs this year. He plays pretty much amp/guitar with little in the way of effects. You should be able to get a good idea of how it would sound from that.

i played a rockverb model, was the same time i tried my third splawn QR.

FWIW the gain tone didnt sound like the youtube clips AT ALL. those amps have absolutely no balls to them - its like the EQ of them is all up high. the youtube and recorded live tones are really depending on the mics or recording methods being used. because the amplifier's gain tone didnt resemble the recorded tones on the internet at all.

tone wise i guess it could be someone's cup of tea, recorded i do agree that they kick ass. but when i tried one i was really let down. i liked the mesa solo rectifier much better that was right next to it. it splunked all over the splawn and the rockverb. my own opinion of course!

at the time i took some hints from code001 here on the forum on setting up the mesa since its a different beast. im not sure if there is a trick to the rockverbs, but that single rectifier kicked fucking ass in that room on everything, even the stiletto model that was right behind it

rockverb was through its own 2x12 cabinet, then i went through the mesa cabinet. the single was through the mesa straight cabinet, and the splawn through a marshall cabinet if i recall correctly.

Amplifire owned a Rockerverb. I thought it was a cool amp. But for metal i would think a Roadster would be the better bet. Of course i prefer Rectos with a slight boost to tighten them up, such as a simple Tube Screamer or a Boss SD-1.

Rockerverbs with a boost kick just as much ass for metal as a Roadster. They aren't as big sounding but they have some great aggressive yet clear and warm tone. I would love to own one. I loved the Roadster I had too BTW......but.....I also have tried the RV 100 with a boost and it was very cool.......can't lose either way.....and Orange loops are great as well......

I used to have an Orange Rockerverb 50. Overall really nice amp. The amp had plenty of gain for classic metal, but even boosted seemed a bit short of modern metal. I just play classic metal, so keep that in mind. It just didn't have the brutalz like a Recto, Engl Fireball, or 5150. The Clean on the RV50 was pretty good, its the weakest point of the amp. Overall the amp sounded like a dark compressed Vox. What I loved about the gain channel on the RV50 was the range, of the knob, it went from overdrive to distoriton, not just drive to too much drive like you get on alot of amps. I would give the gain channel on the RV50 an A- and the clean a C- if assigning a letter grade.

Also because the Orange Rockerverb 50 is pretty dark, I didn't feel it cut through the mix as well as the Fender SF Bassman or Vox AC30CC1 I used with the same band.

You mention the Recto, ENGL and 5150. Yeah I think out of the box you're right. But with a boost it does alot of the same things as those amps. Minus the fuzzy and sometimes brittle tone you can get those amps as well. Which is my primary beef with alot of modern sounding amps......they kick ass in alot of ways but the presence control on them is unusable to me at least. The Orange which I wouldn't say is as modern sounding as the mentioned amps......but that's in a good way. Throw a boost in front and it get's pretty heavy. But then again I don't want a ton of over saturation in my sound. Aggressive definitely but it has to be clear and the RV can do that.......I like their dark tone as well......

I think I'll keep the Roadster and save up for the Rockerverb. :)
