This Guitar Tone Sucks (Why do I love it so much?)

From what I understand, it's SGs into a Boss FZ-2 into a Sound City head. They later went on to use Oranges and Matamps, but I'm pretty sure they recorded Dopethrone with Sound City heads. Why is this tone so great?

Fuzz kicks in at about 1:23

Awesome. When they toured here, they just brought their guitars and fuzz pedals and used rental gear.

It's trashy and shitty, but in a great way! I used to hear stuff like this and wonder people actually paid money for fuzz boxes. Now I love this stuff! Not sure when it changed for me, but there's nothing quite like a killer fuzz tone in your arsenal!

You probably like it because everything is mushed together and sounds like bass guitar with a big muff pi. ;)

Have you ever listened to any other bands?

I did listen to another band once. What was their name?...

Oh yeah! Pantera!

Agreed, but this isn't exactly a killer fuzz box. They rock Boss fuzzes. It's not like we're talking Analogman or Blackout Effectors here. I mean, come on! You can get a Devi Ever for under $100!

But, their shitty fuzz tone seems to rock so hard!

...or maybe it's just the band.

Some fuzz tones are really cool. It's this huge, overwhelming sound that envelopes you.

You have to hear those sounds LIVE though, or through a proper hi-fi sound system. A YouTube video just neuters it, making it sound like a buzzy mess.

I know a two-piece local band that get a HUGE fuzzed up guitar sound, it's so deep & immense it covers the bass sound as well.
The guitarist basically uses a "bi-amp" stereo rig, where the signal is first split off to a Fender combo amp (Blues Junior? not sure), then the rest of the signal chain run through effects to a Selmer Treble & Bass amp head to a Matchless 1x15(?) speaker cab. There's a bunch of fuzz pedals, a Boss Blues Driver, and some OD pedals in front of the Selmer amp. It's a really cool sound and really wallops you when she bangs those guitar strings!

It's funny that there aren't amps that create that sort of sound- surely you can mount a fuzz circuit into the preamp of an amp head with a big high wattage poweramp? Hang on I think maybe Electric Amps have that?

It sounds fucking massive. It just another example of a tone that by itself might sound like ass(subjective), but in the right mix just works perfectly. Doesn't matter if it's a Boss pedal or some fancy boutique pedal. Now, If that were the tone coming out of my amp for what I mostly play, I would be sad. But if I played something similar to the clip you posted that tone would work just fine.
