I could never get an acoustic guitar to sound like I wanted when recording. That is, until I recorded a Taylor. A friend of mine wanted me to record his Taylor 814. When I heard the playback I was very impressed. In fact, I went out the next weekend and bought an 814. I love this guitar!

Even my Taylor 410CE with the Fishman Prefix sounds fantastic recorded direct.

If I could get into debt I would definitely go with one of this! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Andrew White guitars!

I vote Breedlove, but I am biased.

Hey what rendition of "Amazing Grace" is this...I would like to find some tabs close to it if I can.

I gotta say Taylor all the way. I've been so happy with my 410CE. Killer guitar and they can be had under $1500 new.

Got my 410CE for $999 used. Love it.

Huss and Dalton. I used to be a totally into Taylor (914ce, 810, 855) but Huss and Dalton blow them away.

Chuck

I have a nice Martin, but if I were to do it again I think I would get a Santa Cruz. They are unbelieveable!

The usual suspects:

Martin
Taylor
Takamine
Guild
Gibson

Now add:

Breedlove
Tacoma
Yamaha (their handbuilt series)
Gurian (if you can find one used)

I'm sure I've left something off, but that's a solid start. I have an older Guild D25m that is killer, and way under your price range. If I were buying something new I'd take a hard look at Breedlove.
I'd check out Seagull's as well. If you can find an OLD Tacoma with a regular soundhole they were great. Fender bought them out and discontinued all their really great guitars.

I've got a Taylor 812CE that I've had for nearly 10 years now and it sounds better than ever. I used it on lots of solo gigs and its always sounded consistently great plugged in and played great. I think there are other great sounding guitars but for playability and reliability I've been really impressed with it. I've used the same gauge strings the whole time which helps, but the thing plays as well as the day I bought it.

As a long-time owner of Taylor guitars (410-CE and 710-CE Fall Limited), I can NOT recommend them. It really depends on the sound you're looking for, but Taylor guitars are just too bright and thin for my taste.

The best acoustic guitar I've ever played...for pure, simple, tonal beauty...was a Santa Cruz OM of some sort. Hands down, the best acoustic I've ever...ever...ever...laid my hands on.

But, that's just me.

I've A/B'd Taylor, Breedlove, Griphon, Lowdon, Larivee, and Martin with that Santa Cruz and while they were all excellent guitars, the Santa Cruz sounded the best to me.

Martin makes a great acoustic, too. But, that's sort of a given I guess. The Santa Cruz OM is built in a similar fashion as Martin. However, the neck felt better to me, the tuners are amazing (Waverly), and the build quality is excellent (not mass produced as far as I know).

I can't recommend Santa Cruz enough.

Tone = petros

If you have to go Taylor,
Make it a Doyle dykes model

Bang for buck for live gtr in loud band=
Gibson or Takamine with cool tube preamp

I cannot stress how important a great tube di interface can be in taking a mediocre sounding gtr and transform it into a huge dynamic instrument

The cool tube preamp does that and lets you eq out any boxy or boomy stuff
A little compression is also great live

Gotta agree with the Breedlove recommendation. I played them all, but that is what I ended up with.

Its a killer acoustic. I bought a used one for a good deal. New it would have been out of my price range.

I have 2 of the Larivee's, they are fantastic. I also have a Taylor, and its really good too, but I love those Larivees. They sound great, very balanced tone, good projection, play very well, and stay in tune well. I have a 6, and a 12 string. They seem to be less affected by conditions as opposed to my Taylor. Highly recommended

Excellent choice. I've got a D-03 walnut that is great. Best guitar I found under the $1000 mark. Hopefully everything works out, I think you'll love it.
