I'm gonna have to say Damage Inc. But that's just MHO.

definitely up there on the list of most underrated and best

I think TUI is the most underrated due to the fact that they've played it 7 times total.

I love the early Matallica guitar tone. All MARSHALL!!!

same here

MOP is great tonewise and gets all the attention (and I'm guessing is the reason people are so crazy for the IIC+ (though I think they slaved it through a Marshall)), however I prefer the tone of Ride the Lightning. don't know if its modded or not though (I think the amp stolen from Hetfield around Kill em All was an Arrendondo)

IMHO, the most underrated Metallica song is The Things That Should Not Be, S&M version.

You're all wrong

Puppets is far and way my favorite album. Ride The Lightening tone gives me a headache after a while, too much high end. The Puppets tone CRUSHES.

Orion just slays man!

It's gotta be Disposable Heroes and or Master Of Puppets. You won't find two better crafted 8+ minutes in metal. FWIW I like RTL better as an album (more aggresive sounding) but MOP is still genius. Having them sound so different but both kicking ass is actually very cool.
