This sums up why I love Paul Gilberts playing

Not a huge fan of his music, but I'd be hard pressed to name someone with better technique than Paul. He's a MONSTER player.

I do much prefer the current Paul Gilbert thought.

He's grown into tone and taste. One of the greats. :yes:
 
I like him much better now. His tone back then was terrible and he's much better at phrasing now. He sounds great playing on his Marshalls.
 
He is a monster weather you like him then or now. Not many guys can do then or now like he did.

The Racer X albums are still cool too me. They had a certain vibe.

I remember watching a current clinic with Paul on youtube where he commented on much of the new music and guitar players and said..."They strum chords so fast with no break...where is the dynamics of the song?"
That sealed my faith in Paul :)
 
I too really dig Paul, but I think he is a great songwriter. I dig this period especially. I love this track for example....

 
I actually prefer his vocal albums to his instrumental ones, the one he did with Freddie Nelson was incredible. Loved Racer X, not a fan of Mr Big

Two totally different players, both awesome. Crap music ? Really ? I have to disagree as both have some very killer music/songs etc.
 
Although impressive, this isn't an example of what I love about his playing. This is more or less mindless wank, what I love about his wankery is it has melody and groove to it.
