I absolutely love my CAA 2x12 (w/SB M75s). It's a small 2x12 but its ported so it delivers a huge low end. It's also light enough to carry with one hand if needed. I've A/B'd it with my Marshall 4x12 and would challenge anybody to hear a significant difference in a blind test...it really moves some air.

+1000
I have V30's in my CAA 2x12" and it sounds HUGE. Love it!

I recommend White Box 2x12 cabs. 3 piece back, built like an orange, metal recessed handles, rear loaded, and lots of speaker options unless you have your own. They are my main cabs now, I use 2 in a stereo set up. I really like the Hermida Z Ported cabs as well, but they are small, and my amps did not fit on them. I will never say a 2x12 will replace a 4x12 completely, but these get me in the ballpark. I like Emperor, but they have no tolex, which can take a beating on the road.

It's not worth it Pauly. Stick with the 412. No matter what anybody says, they just aren't the same - once you are used to your 412's. It's like someone threw a blanket over your rig and you're missing something.

So, just man up or get roadies

This is really true -- until one tries out a Port City Wave 212. Forget the OS -- too much bass. The regular 212 is insanely huge sounding and extremely portable.

I've owned a Port City OS 2x12 and the standard sized 2x12. I had them loaded with a variety of speakers. WHile they are among some of the best sounding 2x12's,...............i don't care what anyone say's, they're NOT 4x12's and don't match a good sounding 4x12.

I ran Mesa 2x12 split cabs for years but damn they are heavy & a little oversized. Originally came loaded with EVM12Ls which I swapped one out in each cab for a Vintage 30. The cab is kind of split in two with the bottom sealed off/closed back & the top you can run open or closed back. They sound big but weighed more than a 4x12 Marshall. For small clubs I've been running two Mesa 1x12s loaded with V30s. I usually stack them so they have a very small footprint but you have several options on how you place them. Man will these things crank! I've had a ton of compliments on how big they sound & they're very easy to carry. The thing too is that most small venues won't let you get too loud so the 1x12s are plenty enough even without monitor support.

I just bought an Avatar OS2X12 with Vintage 30's new for $468 shipped to my door...

Just called CAA for their 2x12 , they wanted $800+ , fuck that.

Apparently the cost of building a 2x12 isn't that much cheaper than a 4x12. Bogner 2x12's are $789 new and a POrt City is around $550....unloaded! So the CAA price isn't that far out of line from what the other's are charging.

I look at it this way, a 2x12 takes up the same floor space as a 4x12 and you can always stick wheels on a 4x12. The only advantage to a 2x12 i see is loading it in and out of your car and up and down stairs.

Another vote for Splawn--Load it with small blocks and destroy!

SPAM ALERT: :D

I've got an Egntater Mod series 2x12 up in the classifieds w/ V30's in it. It holds it's own pretty well, being an oversized cab.

hey guys...need ur input.

Ive been a 4X12 guy forever. But i am now in need of a 2X12 for smaller gigs

any input on a good 2X12 that wont cost me an arm n leg...and sounds close to a 4X12. Using with my Diezel VH4 head

thanks guys!!
The OP asked about a 2/12 cab that sounds close to a 4/12. .He did not ask about weight....As far as cost. The last Bogner 2/12 OS cab I bought new was just two months ago and I paid $750.00 cash for it total out the door... And it had casters/wheels on it, so it rolled REAL EASY out to the truck and fit standing straight up in the back sitting on the back seat. That 5 inches of reduced height does make the difference for getting it into vehicles. ;)

I'm currently in the same boat. I've been looking at the Port City or the CAA cab to run my 5150III through but am waiting to try the new EVH 2x12 that is supposed to be coming out in the next few months. Hopefully it gets close to the 4x12 EVH.

thanks for the input guys. I am gonna try a Mojo 2X12 from a local guy. I know it wont be my 4X12 Diezel but ill make it work...i hope. If not...shit.

I always come back to my Earcandy Buzzbomb loaded with the Green Machine speakers that earcandy has made by jensen. Something about it just sounds right for me. I have been thinking that since it is only a 212 I might be missing something, so I have put it head to head with the following 412s, and have stayed with my 212, Avatar vintage, Marshall mode 4, and a redstar audio Blackjack. And those are just the cabs that I have owned, and compared it to.
