Never actually done it but I have a loose one on my generator. Set gap with big nut then tighten down with smaller nut on top?

Shit geo I don’t know. Briggs probably. I went ahead and tightened down similar to the other. I don’t have any gauges so I eyeballed it.

It’s an inverter type and I bought it specifically to run my shit if needed…lol…. Supposed to be quieter but not the way it’s carrying on. Hell it’s new….

Crackheads work cheap….. can’t guarantee their work but they are cheap….

Can check center thru sparkplug hole, top of piston.
Cheap set of feeler gauges and youre all set.
Gotta know what clearance to achieve.
Not a bad thing to do once in a while.

Here is the plug. Looks kinda burnt for something that hasn’t been run much.

Initially I was only running propane but only have the small tanks at the moment. When it started acting up I said fuck it and switched to gas. Some of the foam air filter got sucked into the motor somehow also.

Put the spark plug in the boot, rest the metal of the plug on the engine block and pull the rope.

If you have ignition, you will see a spark across the electrode of the plug.

If you are getting heavy ticking in Kohler, Kawasaki or Briggs V twin engines usually you just need to set the valve lash clearances. They get out of spec (loosen up) after many hours running and you need to make the clearances tighter. Plenty of videos on You Tube to walk you through it. At 400 hours I was getting heavy ticking on my Kawasaki 730V on my Toro zero turn. The valve lash was .0010" or more when I checked it at they were ticking pretty good. I set the lash to .004 -.006" spec and the tick was gone and the engines hot restarts were better and it ran better. Some techs like the tightest clearance but I set mine at the upper range of tight .006" and was happy with that.

Valve lash should be checked between the valve tip and rocker arm? Unless that engine has a lash cap?
Feeler gauges are what you need here, no way to really eyeball it unless you can use thicknesses of paper or something like that to check. Cleaning that spark plug wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I'm the type of guy that needs to hear the noise to diagnose it.

At least the engine doesn't have opportunity..... that would be a "knock" not a "tick" :ROFLMAO:
