For a long time now, maybe the last decade or so, I've noticed a lot of restaurants have a tip amount section when ordering online.

Should you tip when you pickup food? Seems ridiculous to me.

I tip for take out. Not as much as I would if I had a nice sit down. But I still tip.

When the stupidity shut down everything, I tried to order carry out at least once a week from one of the local places that I would normaly dine in. Those places I would tip. They needed it. The local Jersey Mikes and other places that I walked in and back out with an order? Nope. I think it's a trend that needs to stop.

I DO NOT tip take out. Where's the extra service for it and in some cases it's THE owner passing over my order to me.

I ONLY tip table service if the service is decent otherwise, no fucking way. I don't reward assholes. I had to work hard for it, so can they.

For “counter service“ types of establisments and other places where there is no service provided I don’t tip.

Curbside carryout where the order is bigger and more complex and the person actually has to put some level of effort into your order I do tip, though at a lower percentage than I would for a sit down meal.

Jersey Mikes is one I noticed doing this first. I asked the guy's working there if they receive a normal wage, or did they rely on tips. The said they get a normal wage.

Many years ago a friend worked at Super Salad. He got paid $2.50 per hour, and relied on tips. However Super Salad was a buffet, so customers had to pay on entry, with no way to add a tip.

Yep. It seems they started the trend and that was the right question. Servers counting on tips make less money.

If I go inside to order and pick up, watch my food being prepared and handed to me (Subway is a good example) and it’s done with courtesy, I tip. Usually 2-3 bucks for an $8 order.
My last visit to Jersey Mike’s I walked in and ordered, then waited 15 minutes while they filled call-in orders…no tip for those boneheads.

I order online or with an app on my phone and tip up front, usually 15% but sometimes more. When people prepare food for me I want them to know in advance I appreciate it, lol. I have found that the toppings are a bit more generous this way also. If I'm not happy with my order I blast them on their customer satisfaction survey or just call the store. I rarely have to do that, fortunately.
