Any tips on how to organize a nice clean pedalboard?

What little things have you learned or been taught that helped you organize your pedal board? I know this sounds sooooooo basic but any tips would be appreciated. I was looking at some Trailer Trash boards recently and was really impressed on how well they are put together. I am in the process of putting my own together and just wanted some ideas on what boards you use, cables, how to organize them, etc. Thanks!

Also, interested in hearing about loopers/midi controllers for pedals if anyone uses them.

First thing I'd suggest is building your own cables, and what I mean by that is George L's or Lava cables ect. That way you can get the exact lengths you need every time with no extra spill over. With careful planning and a well laid out board this will help a great deal to keep things in line.

Second part of your question, loopers/switching systems/ect

I use me a Gig Rig Pro 14. Is it excessive? Ya, a bit. But then again I'm filling it right up and plan on going stereo some time in the next several months (Once I can get my hands on a certain new JVM). It is really great, expensive I can't deny, but does everything I want it to so damn well.

+1 on the cables

when i got the George Ls cut to size and set up, board looked a lot better, just be aware that if you change pedals/placement a lot you might be recutting but it makes a difference

getting powercables and what not out of the way/hiding things underneath the board

as to the looper/switcher systems, for me it's more practical than anything else, it makes pedals even if they're scattered over the board easily accessible from one small place, on a board with 4-5 pedals not necessarily worth it

i've got a board that's 1m across and i think 40 cm wide, i got a 3 way looper bang in the middle for selecting various loops that i can prep in advance depending on the songs, very useful

if you're looking for ideas TGP has extensive 'show your pedalboard' threads where you see some pretty awesome boards , also 'neatest pedalboards' thread and stuff like that

here's one thread..number 28 lol:

and neatest pedalboard thread:

I'm in the process of putting my Trailer Trash board together right now.

As far as looper/switchers go, I can tell you this: the Musicom FX Mk III delivers as advertised. Easily one of the best gear purchases I've ever made. Plus it syncs up flawlessly with the Voodoo Lab pedal switcher.

The musicom is amazing! OP, check out http://www.pedalboardplanner.com for a great place to work on board layout and organization. It's missing a lot of major brands but you can just use blanks for the pedals that aren't listed. Here's one I'm working on right now. Still have a ways to go--gotta buy another fuzz and the compressor and the switcher. (Also going to change position of Dr. Scientist Trem to right before volume pedal later in the chain)
