What do you guys prefer and why? I like the thump of my TM 2x12 with the closed back but it doesn't sound as open on my clean tones. Plus with the back open the sound fills up the stage more. I'm still 50/50 as to which I prefer.

Open back. Just for the spread of the sound. Yeah, doesn't quite thump as much, but I'll take that over the pretty much straight ahead beamy tone by my legs.

Open. And I mean the metal grill off as well  . It makes a difference, try it, you may like it.

Bill,
I just tried removing the metal grill. Wow what a difference. Thanks

I also have a pair of Scumbacks on the way. A M75/H75 65watt pair. I can't wait to try them in the TM.

Dude, let me know what you think of the H/M mix. It's what I have in mine now and love it.

Really, the metal grill on back slot?? Remove that as well??

It made a difference. How big of a difference is up to you. It was noticeable.

Your welcome  I think I read about the grill from another member here. The grill is a nice option to open the back part of the way,but when you remove the grill you are truly opening the back all the way. Please give us a review of the new speakers when you have the chance .

I like to play with my speakers as well. What differences do you notice with the Scumbucks compared to the stock speakers? Thanks

Man, been so long to tell you the truth. I'd say overall, just warmer and more open. Yet they still can get that upper mid bite too. And honestly, I didnt' stick with the 80's long at all so they probably didn't get a fair shot as I'm sure they would have taken much longer to get really broken in. I think the 80's were just a "harder" sound from what I can remember........maybe a little more "nasal" too but I'm sure that was newness related as well. I'm a blues/classic/hard rock guy and these current scumback speakers seem to just fit my style well.

Thanks B-Dog, That's the music I play as well. The E80's are stiff (hard) when new but they do mellow out in time. I was curious because there is a lot of possitive feedback about Scumbacks but everything I've read has been from a Metal point of view and my needs are different. You gave me some good info more realative to my style. Thanks.

Bill

I play a lot of country gigs(far from a metal guy)and love Celestions so hopefully I will love the Scumbacks. The E80's sound good but like most players I'm curious to hear what all the fuss is about.

I have a ET65 and an E80 in my TM2X12. I want to try some Scumbacks but I need a job first.

I found the open back to be a little bit too open for my taste. I like the cab a little tighter.
