I've got a pair of T.A. pickups in a PRS CE24 maple, H1 Neck, and H3+ bridge i think. The neck pickup is pretty good, especially when split, but the bridge pickup seems REALLY dark to me. Is this normal? Cleans sound pretty good, but as soon as I hit some gain, it sounds like there's a blanket over the speakers. Flip to the neck pickup split, and there's plenty of bite, so I know it's not the gain channel on the amp (SL A and B on Egnater Mod50). Maybe it's just the model of pickup. Sounds great for leads though.

Try an H2 or H2+. The 3 series are too hot / dark for me.

Good to know.

I'm not really tied to the Andersons, so If anything, I'll probably sell it, and get a Steve's Special (my normal go to bridge pickup), or something similar. On the other hand, there's a SD Alnico Pro II in the bridge of my CE22 maple, and I love the way that guitar sounds...

Decisions, decisions....

The Alnico II's were too dark for me. In a maple guitar they probably work well.

The H2+ is brighter and a bit more output than the H2. Either will match up well with the H1. I have the H2+ in both my Cobras. Nice med output pickup.

I have an H3+ in the bridge and H1 in the neck. So far I really like it. To my ears and hands I like the way it sounds and feels better than the Dimarzio Steve's Special I have in my Music Man Petrucci. Maybe it is the combination of woods in my guitar (mahogany body, maple top and maple neck) that compliments it well. I tend to like my guitar tones dark. Good luck finding a pickup that works for you.

I agree with trying the H2+. I first tried an H3, then moved to an H2+ in my strat. I really like the H2+, high output, but not too hot and overly compressed. Splits well too, I actually like the H2+ split better than most bridge strat bridge SC's which tend to sound too thin and bright.

H2+ is the way to go. Never liked the 3 series, myself.

I have an H2+ which i also like a lot in my Drop Top. My Cobra has an H02 in the bridge which is nice and bitey.

I had a regular H3 in a few guitars and didn't find it to be a dark pickup at all. i actually felt that the H2+ was much darker for some reason

I have several H3+ and H2+ pickups. The EQ curve is fairly the same, but the H2+ is boxier sounding to me. The H3+ is smoother.

I've got an HN3/H1 in my PRS 24 and an HN3+ in my Explorer. The HN3+ has A LOT of output and it's focused in the lower mids. I can see how someone would call it dark. The HN3 is almost the exact opposite. It has tons of output too and is more focused in the upper mids. I love the HN3+ for metal and heavy stuff, but I think I'd like something like the H2+ instead of the HN3 because it's a bit too hot and has too much mids. Sounds great for leads though.
