Anyone who owns or has tried both, can you tell me what the main tonal differences are between the two? Thanks

SE+ is lower mid with singing leads.
PT is more of an upper mid. More open then the SE+ (the upper mid sits perfectly in the mix and cuts when solo'd)

Both are great and I'd say they have equal amounts of gain.

You just need to decide what voicing fits you and your style the best

Best of luck

Interesting post Matt. Like the OP Ive been asking around the gear page on this topic as well. Your post seems to be the consensus.

I did have a SE+ and still have the PT... I just like the PT more. The main reason is that I play hard/classic rock and the PT's voice (when I turn the volume down on my guitar) just sounds damn good. It sits perfectly in the mix. The feedback knob on both of these amps play a big part in my opinion... the lower the feedback setting the looser/vintage sound is what you will get... the higher feedback setting result in a tighter/modern sound.... both amps will cover so much ground. If you play a huge amount of solo's the SE+ is going to shine a bit more because its voiced to with singing leads. The PT does do great leads and the 3rd master/gain helps get it here.

Just try and listen to the clips on line.. Mark Days clips will be deciving because of the active pickups and on board boost on his guitar... unless thats the setup u have

Good luck
