I think they sound pretty badass for the price. New they were like $549, used as low as $250-$300. I've had mine since 2006 and have yet to replace the tubes :D . At low volumes they're pretty good sounding, a little harsh when you crank them.

Here's just a clip from before with some CHEAP stuff. Ibanez GX40 (yes a $150 guitar), with BOSS SD1, Valveking, and G12-65s. Let me know what you guys think.

Sounds brutal dude...Peavey does some great shit for tones like that. One of my fav metal tones comes out of a Peavey Transtube Bandit boosted with an SD1.

Peavey's are great. Entombed's Clandestine album was recorded with a Peavey Bandit and Boss Heavy Metal pedal. I had a Renown 400 combo as a kid and wish I had never sold it. Those things were tanks!

No that thing is a buzzy mess, diode clipping distortion etc... Run away.

I had a combo for a while, it was okay. The A-A/B pot was interesting. You'd definitely have to boost it to get enough gain for metal.
