I’ll limit this to single a single thread. I’ve been pretty busy lately with orders, but have had requests for new models, so I’ve been pretty busy prototyping.
Additionally, I’ve had to raise my prices, not only due to my increased cost for raw parts, but I simply wasn’t making much money and could only keep in enough parts to buy and I build. I’m finally building up a decent parts inventory that’s helping me keep down order times as orders increase. Every one of my pickup models has some slight tweaks since I originally started winding and appreciate everyone patronage and feedback as I grow and improve.
New Products:
Psykes - this will be my first ceramic offering. Obviously going for the Whitesnake tones here 16k/C8 magnets x3
It seems like when polled that people were interested in a Dirty Fingers type pickup. There were several version, out one was 14k and the other was 15-16k, both unpotted. My research indicates the the both had the same amount of winds, just one having 43awg wire and the other 44awg. I was able to acquire a 16k 44awg version that I used for reference. The coils are fatter near the top of the bottom and tapper down and inward. I used the same 3 magnet design with opposing poles toward the screws. I also wax potted for practicality. The DNA is certainly there. I’ll probably add just a few more winds to the one in the video, but to my ears and fingers, it’s a close as I’m going to get without having their machine winder and vintage parts. Overall, I like this one a lot. I am having to source magnets from the UK, so this one will be a few dollars more. I ordered enough for a batch of 10. I expect to have the parts by next week.
I’ll get some better clips soon, but even with my bad playing, you can still hear the similarities.
*** I’ve posted a revised version in post 19 that I think is closer****
WD Forte’ - Similar to Duncan RTM specs. 17.6k/A2. A little less aggressive wind pattern and little more sag for lead tones, but still tight and sweeter top end than the Roxy
7d8 - 9.2k/A2 . Hot PAF VH tones. I decided not to do offset coils on these, as they’re plenty clear enough.
Also, Blake Mansfield posted some great comparison clips of my Roxy and Sunset Strip vs some popular pickups.
Aldrich vs Roxy - the Aldrich adds some lowend chunk and girth whereas the Roxy has a tighter low end and some karrang.
The Sunset is 15k here vs the Thornbucker II at 9.2k. I feel that for the difference in output the Sunset some PAF level clarity with the benefit of more output.
The Sunset vs The BK VH II I think the VHIi is a great pickup. Meant for different things with the them being 15k vs 8.7k. The Sunset I think is my most versatile pickup.
