Fender strat with maple neck and single humbucker (no tone pot). Looking for 80’s tones with modded Marshall type amps.

Sunset Strip vs Roxy vs Wicked 8

I have both the SS and Roxy. SS is a little more 80s; the Roxy adds a bit more 'heavy' to the tone, still 80s as well but a touch heavier sounding. Both have great mids but the SS is more like a JB without the spike. Like a perfected JB...or an even better MCP Angel Dust.

Really can't go wrong with either pup..mine are in all Alder guitars...86 Jackson, 08/09 USA Charvels

I haven't listed on this on my websites yet, but I have my 1984 available in either A2 or Ceramic ~14k. Those first 3 are on the tighter side. The 1984 is plenty crisp, but has a little more bounce under the fingers whereas the the Sunset and Roxy are a little more rigid.

The second vid is actually the Roccaforte, not SLO

I'm not the right person to answer because I use these pups in 24.75 scale TOM style guitars - lps, explorers, etc

But in general, with Marshalls, I like the Roxy best because it adds fullness and heaviness

The sunset strip I think is a bit more JB like and if you wanted a super sharp sound it would sound great, but I personally think the Roxy "balances" more mid range heavy amps a bit better

If you want more bounce and a softer feel, for leads rather than tight rhythm tones, I would suggest you try the 1984 Scott posted

Roxy ! I’ve got that pickup in a guitar exactly as the one you described and it rips thru my Splawns and Soldano . I’ve also had those other two pickups and the Roxy remains.

I always shoot Scottosan a message and ask what he recommends.

Honestly, I'm perfectly happy telling him what I'm working with and what I'm looking for. His recommendations on my explorer build cleared up any hesitation on my part to go with his recommendations. He just knocked it out of the park. I have another build coming up in the next couple months that will have his pickups.

We are really lucky to have him as a source

BTW I have a wicked 8 in my explorer not sure if I went swamp ash or alder though. I'm was jamming with it and the Atla settings from Jason's recent video and I was like a kid in a candy store.

Love the Sunset in my Squier HSS. It's poplar, though. Just loooooove it in that guitar. It can do it all. That guitar sounds better than any $400 should.

The Roxy was made for the roasted alder Charvel prepro Scott made, and it really took that guitar to the next level. I always think about trying something else in there, but then I play it and it's like the opening scene for Happy Days, when Fonze is looking in the mirror, about to comb his hair, but it's already perfect.

Lol, thankfully I'm old enough to appreciate the Fonz reference.
