MacAlpine definitely does not get enough press. The guy is insane and continues to move forward unlike other shredders of yore. Great great player.

Thanks for posting! Good to see Tony's still shredding.

I had no idea he had been recently touring with Portnoy, Sheehan and Sherinian (Winery Dogs and ex-DT mish-mash):

mackie throws down the Shi-naynay

his tone with vai was cool and he handed vlad the impaler his toucas come solo time

but his live tone with planet X using the original legacy 1/2 stack was mud slinger with a side of fingers in the ears and nostrils

ps

all shrapnel artists sounded like they were recorded by varney in his undies whilst watching a packers game

one of my favourite players, underrated for sure , those first 2 albums for me are some of the best neoclassical shred of the time

i'm always jumping out of my seat when i see him listed with Vai , and then it's actually mainly keyboard then guitar heh

on of my favourite solos is on this track, around the 2 minute mark, album from 2001

TMac is such a monster. I've loved his playing since the 80s. His Planet X stuff is him at his best. I saw him live with Sherinian sometime around '07 and that's what convinced me to start playing the 7string.

He's a monster pianist as well. Maximum Security is always in rotation at my house.
