Hi,

My TL seems to be over heating. There's a message on the front that states Too Hot, Stop Playing. Does this mean that I am running my amps volume too high? I am using it with a JVM410HJS with the clean channels volume at around 1 o'clock and the master around 10:30 to 11 O'clock. The fan appears to working. Some time ago though I submitted a ticket regarding loud fan noise. As suggested, I opened the unit up to have a look and the noise seem to go away without doing anything. Might of had something to do with pressure on the fan.
Please help. I have not been able to use this unit reliably live since I've owned it as it has been dropping in and out of volume. I really enjoy it when works though!

Hi, there seems to be several issues here so we'd need to address each one. Re-opening your support ticket would be recommended.

The fan may have been installed with the screws too tight, causing the housing to rub the fan....causing a loud fan noise. Usually, relieving a bit of tension on the mounting screws corrects this. Removing the cover may cause the symptoms to go away but that's not a solution.

The fan should have a low and high speed operation prior to a thermal shutdown warning so perhaps the fan is now not doing its job.

The shutdown warning is temperature based so please look at what could be contributing to the rise in temperature. Does the rack allow airflow, is it mounted on top/below of a processor than emits a lot of heat? Is the fan working (as above)?

Finally, is the cutting volume when you get the thermal warning or another issue altogether?

Sometimes running an amp clean can get some serious voltage at the output, especially if there are pedals and boosts in front, it may be that you are already putting out a heck of a lot of wattage at those settings.

I'd try and optimize the placement for ventilation and perhaps reduce the volume a tad.

Thanks for the reply. I Tried lowering the volumes to what they would be a normal gigging volume and the volume dropout and overheating issue went away.

The Torpedo was just on my desk not inside of a rack when this happened.

The cutting of the volume appeared to have happened when I got the thermal warning.

I ran the same setup with no issues. I had an outdoor gig in July and it was hot. No problem!
How loud are you running the amp? That amp gets a nice sweet spot just at about a 1/4 up on the master. Very strange.

Please note that the cutting of the volume is a feature accompanying the thermal warning : the idea is to let the user notice the warning, even if he is not looking at the Torpedo Live.

I was running the Clean Orange volume and gain around 1:30 - 2:00. Master 1 was set at around 11:00. Along with some drive pedals. Running it like this made the top of the TL VERY HOT. Since lowering the channels volume to around 11:00 the issue has not returned
