ORIGINAL OPENING POST

Thinking of picking up a tremolo pedal to use with my Ecstasy. I don't need the *best* pedal available, as I only use it on 2 tunes live. However, it needs to sound great and be durable - no plastic boxes!

Thoughts? Opinions?

Please discuss.....

I had a boss one. It was fine for me. Sold that one and built one with the EA tremolo schematics all over the web. Its nice. I like it better than the tremolo on my tverb

The Danelectro Cool Cat trem is nice. Metal case, enough settings to get some nice sounds...not the most feature-laden trem out there, but its settings seem to sound nice right off the hop. It's cheap too.

Really? I was thinking of just getting the Boss......So, is it good, bad or ugly?.....

Its OK. doesnt suck but doesnt wow either. But for just a couple songs it would be just fine.

i had a keeley modded boss TR-2 that was great. i sold it when i bought a TC nova modulator and instantly regretted it. i've since sold the TC and hardly use a trem anymore but when i do it's the one in my GSP1101. so all that said, get the keeley modded boss if you can swing it over the stock one.

The Chicken Salad sounds amazing...but it has a plastic case

Empress tremolo?

might be overkill for what you need, but yes, it sounds absolutely great and the features are killer!

Like others have said I'd get the TR-2. I just recently picked up a PN-2 to replace my TR-2 and have been digging that though. If you could find one of those I'd recommend that.

I have only ever had 2 tremelo pedals, the Boss TR-2 and my current BYOC Tremelo. The TR-2 was solid, but I really like the BYOC tremelo. I got it used for $50 too and its been great. Is it as good as the tremelo on my Fender Brown super, no, but its solid and works well. I like that the BYOC has the led flash in time with the tremelo, it helps in setting the speed a bit.

Just read too that the BYOC tremelo is based on the EA tremelo that was previously mentioned. :)

Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter is awesome. Has a tap tempo (which I think is crucial for a trem), all the controls you need, and the price is right. I modded it myself so I could plug in an external tap to sync my delay with the trem.

Trust me, this will fit the bill.

What a conundrum! There's a TR-2 AND a Shape Shifter for sale locally right now on CL......
