Tremolo Pedals?

I need a pedal that will do the choppy, on/off effect like you hear in the beginning of Sevendust's "Black." It would be nice if it could cop some vintagey sounding vibrato as well.

How is the Boss TR-2 pedal? What others would you recommend? Dunlop also had a cool tremolo pedal several years ago. . .it looked like a wah, and was purple.

The TR-2 will do that but Id recomend finding something with a tap tempo for that type of effect

I used to use the TR2 to cover that song. Sounded great, but I agree that tap tempo is a must.

As a side note, just built a parts tele with my buddy and put a trem circuit right in the guitar! It sounds great! Got it from guitar fetish.

I've been curious about those little things. What's the verdict on it? Is it noisy at all? I've been wanting to try a compressor in my bass, but I've been real skeptical. I know the Guitar Fetish pickups (GFS pickups) are legit for the price. What do you think?

Yeah that trem circuit sounds amazing! No noise and wired for true bypass. It honestly sounds better than most trem pedals I've used.

Not sure if they're still available, but the Homebrew Tramp could do that harsh trem type effect really well. Had one for a long time, loved it.

Rocktron surf or Reaction tremolo will do the helicopter on the cheap

I'm a longtime TR-2 user and I think it's a great pedal, but I needed something with the ability to really chop the sound and also give me more options in general. The Catalinbread Semaphore does it for me. Outstanding pedal, super clean, all the options you need from cutting chop to swells, with lots of versatility. I can't speak highly enough about it. It will do what you're looking for. The Gig-FX Chopper is also a killer tremolo pedal to check out. Takes up way more real estate on a board though.

I've been looking at tremolo pedals as well. The EHX Worm is quite cheap, that's analog tremolo, vibrato and phaser and wah in one box for ~£65.

Not sure if it's as 'strong' as a tone as I'm looking for, but you may be interested.

Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter for me (by far). Not over priced, has a tap tempo, and can be very easily moded to be controlled by an external tap (I use one tap, an FS-5U, in my B rig to set the tempo of both my delay and tremolo). You can get any tremolo effect out of it, very tweakable, very quiet.

Hard to beat the Empress Tremolo for what you're looking for. Has tap tempo, does the chop thing
and can be dialed in for a subtle vintage/tube tremolo.

I have the EHX Worm. It's got a nice choppy warm tremolo effect, but I usually use the phaser effect more.

Don't laugh, but for the chopper I like the Behringer Ultra Tremolo.
