So I grabbed an Xotic EP boost. Thing was really neat but sucked tone when it wasn't on..... so I decided to sell it. I took pictures, had the listing typed up and ready to click send. Then it hits me...

" JD would love this thing" I think to my self. JD IS a strat blues/rock player locally where I live.

So I text him and say " Hey man, I've got a pedal I think you'd really dig. "

After chatting back and fourth for a bit he asks what I would take for the pedal and I say $95.. He said bring it over and he'd like to check it out.

Day 1... I drop the pedal off with the premise he would try it out and buy it if he liked it..
Day 2... Not a word... no big deal, not hurting for the 100 or anything and the guy is a local guitarist/sudo friend
Day 3... I get a text at 7 PM. "Hey man, I dig the pedal.. Mind if I try it on stage tonight?? " I say sure and never hear back from him
Day 4... I text him at 10 Pm and ask how the show went... " It was great !" .... at 10:30 PM I sent back "... so how'd the pedal do??"

Day 5... I send "...so how'd the pedal do??" again.. fast forward 3 hours, "I really like the pedal man, it was great!" he finally responded. Awesome I think.... "So you wanna go ahead and buy the pedal?" I shoot back.

Long period of time later he says " Man I've got cash set aside to build a Strat".... thats it.. nothing else... He just shit out a half completed thought into alphanumeric form via his smartphone, delivered to my phone, and began an Eye twitch that hasn't gone away since..

In as much of a "make up your mind tone" you can have without sounding like a dick, I said.. "thats cool man, I offered it to you and let you jam with it because I thought you might like it. If you cant buy it.. I need it back asap. No hard feelings".

Day 8.. Nothing, and the guy wont return my calls....

I guess im going to wait till next Thursday, pay the 5 dollar cover at the shit dive he is playing... Walk over to the stage and rip my pedal off his board... then leave..

Years and years ago, my uncle provided some electrical service repair work for a local business guy/"friend". Days, and days pass, and no money to my uncle for the gear he bought, much less the time he had invested.

So my uncle waits until the guys busiest time, a local beer joint, rolls up with his side cutters...ask politely for his cash. The dude back peddled and offered some bullshit, we will work it out answer. My uncle goes to the room where he had installed the sub panel and cut the eff'n thing loose and snatched the panel from the wall! Knocked out power to the entire joint. Said not a damn word and walked out.

I posted it up on craigslist locally and within 5 minutes of it going up he called me and said he would sale one of his and buy mine. ... I think i'll leave the posting up. I'm half convinced the guy pawned it...

This is the exact reason (among a few personal experiences of giving people the benefit of the doubt/shit happens and getting fucked) I cannot trust anyone anymore. Sure. Pawned a few cheapo pedals a couple years ago...got like 20$ apiece. Weren't worth much more...

if the club owner knows you and is a friend, then you could do this:

explain to him/her the situation.

ask how much the band is getting paid. tell him you'd like to have him buy the debt (he gives you the 100$) and gets 100$ worth of free show from the band. win/win for both of you.

think of the fuckery that will ensue within that band for that dude screwing you over.

i did it with a kid that owed a girlfriend of mine 500$. i paid her the money he owed her, in front of him, and politely let him know that i now owned his debt. he said he didnt have it, and got very defiant until i explained that i would take his gold chain from him for collateral, in front of this room full of his friends. "my grandma bought me this chain for graduation" and i explained that it would be collateral for the debt, along with me going outside and taking his windshield from his car.... it took a while, but his friends all ended up pitching in to pay 200$ to me to not kick the shit out of him, and i got his chain until he had the money, which, i believe was withing like 10 days or so. and, he never came around again cause he wasn't willing to pay his friends back the 200$ and kept dodging them. not my problem.

sometimes you gotta think outside the box, and throw your weight around. not saying you have to resort to violence, or even the threat there-of, just saying, there's ways to go about shit.
I personally wouldn't sabotage his shit on stage, cause you never know what the retaliation would be.

I'll loan pedals..sometimes but never guitars ... If someone did something like that to my PRS I'd funking go unhinged on them.

I haven't got the cash or the pedal... still waiting for him to sell one of his kelley modded blues drivers .. I'm thinking he brought up the "Kelley modded" blues driver hoping I'd trade him... I'll give it a day or two more, then just go get it. It's only a 100 bucks and not worth the grief but its damn annoying to say the least.
