Trying to make my footswitch cable longer. now it's weird

I had an old tourmaster footswitch cable (8 pins) and I got a new one also...
So i cut 1 end off of each and soldered 7 wires i found in there to each other..
carefully matching red to red, black to black etc etc...
now the footswitch works but weird...if i push channel 2 for instance i get channel 4,
if i push reverb i get effect loop and so on and so forth...what did i do wrong?

you assumed the color codes matched exactly. you have two leads swapped it sounds like.

You might to just buy a longer cable. They aren't that expensive, and it never hurts to have an extra.

where? ... I can hardly find a 7 pin midi...8 is next to impossible
