Just got my 2555x today, got about an hour on it and really dig it so far. It came loaded with Marshall branded Tung Sol EL34’s and Marshall branded pre tubes. What do you guys suggest? I’ve got a quad of JJ E34L’S and a quad of JJ 6L6’s here I can try. What do these amps like?

E34L's. I had the Mini, and it responded well to good preamp tubes too!

I just put E34L's in my Friedman too. I prefer KT77's, but I do like E34L's. Tight!

Gonna disagree big time...with a vintage OR 2555x those JJs are tub city. IME anyway. The stock Tung Sol 34s sound good, definitely better than the JJ EL34L. Now, the JJ 6CA7s sound really nice.
OP I'd grab KT90s...that amp will take ANY 2 pairs or quads of octal tubes, such a cool feature. KT90s are like HUGE sounding EL34s. Just fantastic. It's the tube the KT88s want to be. One thing about my experience with the 2555x is my vintage tubes didn't sound any better in it than the new production. So don't waste cash on vintage stuff.
I used combinations, pairs of 34s and 6550s, 6L6 and KT88, KT90s etc. Or straight quads of any. Lots of fun tube rolling!

Yeah, I really dig that tube. They’re much tighter, punchier, and more aggressive than EL’s. I put them in my Triple Rec and they kill. I wanted to like the 6L6’s better because, well, that’s the “recto sound,” but there’s just no comparison imo. The E34L’s just lit a fire under it’s ass. The 6L6’s sound drab in comparison. And for anyone considering trying it in a Recto, Eurotubes did warn not to use them in silicone, only tube, because they do run hotter than EL34’s. For the record, they’re tight enough on tube setting anyway. Probably tighter than 6L6’s on silicone setting.

KT90’s, huh? Interesting. I don’t really dig KT88’s, I thing they’re overly dry and tight. But a huge sounding EL34, that sounds awesome. When you run different pairs in this amp, do you put the same type in 1-2, and 3-4, or like a simulclass amp?

E34Ls are my go to. I will be trying 6CA7s at some point soon.

It's been a few yrs since I had the 2555x but from what I remember there's some instructions printed on the chassis to let you know the bias range. Points and bias screws for both sides are outside so you don't have to pull the chassis. The pairs are 1-2, and 3-4 which is different from a vintage Marshall where you could run the 2 inner or 2 outer tubes if you wanted to go from 100-50w. The KT 90s are like 50 per tube though, not cheap but I think they are just awesome.
I should say with the JJ EL34L I did like that tube in the Wizards...Rick sends them loaded with the EL34L. I just don't like them in any Marshall and I'd bet 12 have been delivered to me over the yrs loaded with them.

JJ's in the preamp can get tubby, for sure, but the E34L is generally pretty tight. I'd roll with a Tungsol in V1 to add some sizzle.

GT- EL34M. Nice sounding mids with CRUNCH. My favorite EL34.

If you don't like Tungsols you're not gonna really like anything else currently made.
TS 34's are the best thing going unless buying old stock SED =C='s

In this amp, I agree..those Tung Sol 34s come stock since that's what mine came with. Of course, I then tube rolled with my Cs, Siemens and vintage Mullards and they didn't sound any better than the Tung Sol 34. Which is the truth about new production amps IME...they just aren't sensitive to tube swaps like the vintage versions.
When I had my 2555x I also had an 87 2555 and they loved the vintage glass...not so much the JJ EL34Ls that it came with nor the Tung Sol 34 that I tried in it, taking them out of the X...I thought I'd found a new production tube that would allow me to sell my vintage glass! Ah, not to be...they sounded dull in the original. Vintage amps love vintage glass, and new production amps don't care as much.

EL34s for compatibility with my other amps. Nice thing about amps with independent bias circuits is that you don't have to waste a good tube when one of a matched pair blows. If it's a quad and one blows, I'll save two good ones for my 1987xl and the other good one for my DSL50. If it's a matched pair and one blows, the good one gets saved for the DSL50.
