A couple of us predicted this already....
I've have a number amps in my reverb watch list. Several of them have updated the listing to say tubes not included due to sanctions. And prices weren't adjusted to compensate; go figure ?‍♂️

lol.. I figured the manufacturers would do it first. Just have a demo in the store thats tubed so you can try it out.

So are they selling the amps ‘as is’ as well? Just wondering what happens when I load in my rack of tubes and I have an issue. Then we get to have the discussion on if it’s my tubes or the amp. Pretty easy for a bad power tube to take out a screen resistor and then who pays. Just going to be a mess.

I'm sure in the warranty fine print they will take care of that little problem

For the moment it's individuals selling used amps. That makes it worse because they're still being listed as in working condition. That's going to be a mess if you buy something and it shows up not working.

Buyer: The amp arrived not functional
Seller: It was working when I shipped it, your tubes are probably bad
Buyer: My tubes are good, you sold me a bum amp.
And in a big circle that goes.

Probably won't be long before stores start doing this crap followed by the manufacturers unless JJ & EH can catch up on orders quickly enough. Either that or you'll have the scumbags pulling the tubes out the amp and selling them separately for a huge markup.

Next thing you know places like Guitar Center will be like:

"Come check out the new Mesa Dual Rectifier - please bring your own tubes. That will be 6 power tubes, 5 preamp tubes and 3 rectifier tubes

I can picture that one...
Some idiot; customer or GC employee, jamming a power tube in the rectifier slot then being dumbfounded as a plume of smoke fills the room when they flip the power switch

Not gonna happen. New amps won't leave the factory without tubes. Prices of new amps will just increase... That is my opinion.
On the second hand market however... there always were and will be idiots.

When I was in my Randall MTS days, I bought/sold/traded a few modules without the two pre amp tubes. Mainly because I flipped a lot of modules and grew tired of receiving them with complete garbage tubes that needed to be swapped anyway. Fully disclosed of course.

I think that is totally reasonable for a module with 2 preamp tubes. I have yet to see a preamp tube take out components around the tube when it fails, most of the time they just don't have the gain they should or are microphonic.

To me that is completely different than a whole amp with no tubes.

Today I learned that TAD are producing with another small tube manufacturer and they have updated their equipment, yada yada yada and are going to be shipping a lot of TAD Redbase tubes soon. They say its not through any of the 3 main manufacturers so my guess is PSVane. I havent heard much good about PSVane but maybe they will elevate their quality.

At anyrate this isn't going to last too much longer so if someone says tubes not included tell them to fuck off.

I still have a ton of MTS modules, definitely different than an entire amp being sold stripped of tubes. There's a parallel in the gaming PC industry for high-end video cards, which are also used by cryptocurrency miners. Demand for the fast cards went through the roof as crypto prices soared, then COVID supply chain compounded it. Spawned a practice referred to as "schucking" where sellers would only offer the video cards bundled into a PC, rather than stand alone component. People would buy them, pull the card, and resell the PC without a video card. Was rampant a few years back.

I can't see new amps being sold without tubes for the warranty nightmares that would produce right out of the gate. Used sellers that are pulling the tubes to sell separately for crazy markup & trying to sell "shucked" amp are the sort of people I don't want to do business with, here's a St Patty's Day wish that it goes horribly for all of them!

Very interesting. I didn't know that TAD was sourcing from a separate Chinese plant, have never used TAD tubes. Not sure how long they have had this posted on their website, but Western Electric website has this blurb (their audiophile tubes are insane expensive for the billionaire home theater system market, but who knows what overseas partnership they might consider):

Western Electric is assessing plans to expand tube operations. Our latest factory is equipped to handle production of multiple tube types and, in light of recent worldwide events, we believe our capacity to do so may become vital to the industry.
While we continue to meet steady demand for the type 300B triode, we want to hear from you regarding other popular tube types. Click below. Fill the form. After you share your thoughts, be sure to share this page with others.

So basically, as most of us rational people here realized there's no need to shit a brick and panic buy all the tubes.

Like a kidney stone... it may be a little rough short term, but this to shall pass.
Had kidney stones twice. Absolute agony. Kidney stones are amazingly still not the most unwanted things to have ever been shot from a dick. Top spots are Eric and Don Jr.

Given the WE 300B are $700 each I doubt they will be an affordable option.... but we shall see.
