Expecting there are some members here who appreciate the photos of the make-over journey of my RGD.
After years of dreaming, at last it has started! The construction/building of my ultimate guitar by a very expercienced guitar builder here in The Netherlands (Vincent Custom Guitars). Since Ibanez introduced its RGD line in 2010, I was immediately hooked and spelled by its design. The stealthy lines of its body shape together with the extra inch in scale length for my huge hands convinced me that this was the ultimate guitar.
This project is btw my fourth RGD. That sort of confirms my weakness for these beautifull guitars.
After I was lucky to get hold of a cheap B-Stock RGDIX6PB, I was able to start the journey. The body design & material, the neck design, scale length and the ebony fretboard formed the perfect base for the project. Only the poplar top (which I really do not like) had to be removed. The rest of the transition and materials are added by this great guitar builder.
The things I want to change:
- Changing the poplar top (body & head stock) for a beautifull Quilted Maple Top (Masave.nl fijnhout Zwolle)
- Moving the jack-in to the Prestiges spot
- Offset inlays in the ebony fretboard
- Transparant Black Burst colour of the body and headstock finished of by a glossy finish
- Assembly of the special made ETS Hardware (DE) Tuning Fork
- Assembly of the special wounded Oil City Pickups (UK). Bridge: Transonic, Neck: Nightfighter
- Assembly of a new GraphTech nut
- Ibanez RGD Prestige Potmeter and Electrics
