Just over two years in now and the honeymoon simply never ended, lol. I still enjoy this amp as much today as the first day I fired it up. Here's to ya girl, happy anniversary.

Here's a nearly finsihed instrumental (shreddy/rock) mix I'm putting the finishing touches on. Enjoy.

/ SAVE AS

Link doesn't work for me.

Clicking didn't work for me either but right-clicking and "save target as" did work.

Sounds very good!!

I completely agree with you. I tend to stay on one gear for a while and then make a switch and it opens the amp up again like I have a new amp. It keeps the honeymoon continuing. I was on gear 3 for a few weeks or so and then I went down to gear 1 and the amp is sort of a new amp for me with that voicing. Each voicing gives such a new dynamic to the tone that you don't get ear fatigue.

BTW: How would you compare it to your 5153? I have always wanted to try one of those.

sounds great, unexpected chord changes to boot

think my missus would get jealous if i recorded a honeymoon track with some of my gear lol

Hey, thanks for the heads up on the link, corrected that now (added the reminder to "save as").

Thanks for the listens! Yep, 1st gear (OD2) here with the gain at max and a little clean boost from a BB Preamp.

Quinn, I love the 5150 III as well, it's doing much of the rhythm work in this tune (cleans-ish and dirty parts), it just doesn't quite top the Splawn for leads though, I mean the mids don't have the same level of charater, not as round, etc.

That sounds great. Very nice saturated tone that sings. Great stuff!

I've always been interested in the Quick Rod...thats about the only amp that I never bought and tried. Are the gears footswitchable? What speakers sound best with Splawns?

Thanks Hoff, Badronald, SLO!

Griff...the gears are not footswitchable, at least not on mine. I haven't been keeping up with what the latest Splawns are up to as there's been no need to really, happy with my gear these days, just focused on writing and playing (imagine that, lol  ). I do know it has been suggested to Splawn many times to make the gears footswitchable, wouldn't be surprised if that is in the works already. Speakers are such a subjective topic, I wouldn't be the one to make suggestions! I do love the G12H30 if I only had a single speaker to mic for recording. The Small Block 25 would be another for that. In this tune though, I mic'd a Heritage Greenback and a V30, then blended the two. Most Splawn owners avoid the mid vibe of the v30, tis overkill with the mid character of the QR, but when mixed with a complimentary speaker/mic, it works! ;)

With my Competition the gears are footswitchable. Gear 1-2 and 2-3. I like the Splawn small blocks with the amp. Thats what i have in my 2x12.

QR gears are foot-switchable, just have to read the manual and hook up a TRS switch correctly. Can be done with any latching switch or GCX/Patchmate 8, etc.--just like noted above--can switch from 1st to 2nd (knob in 1st gear) or from 2nd to 3rd (knob in 3rd gear).

Scott is also now making a 4-button footswitch that includes the gear change functionality--check the Splawn page--I believe it's a minimal upgrade from the standard 3-button switch.

Re-check the syntax in the URL for your posted link. Looks like there may be some unfriendly or misplaced characters.

sounds absolutely stellar, sounds like you have some pretty nice tone\vibrato in your hands as well which would make me think you would make most stuff sound great :)

Thanks for the listens + comments fusionbear, bigangry...too kind!! (=

They have a new 4 button footswitch that allows you to go between two gears but not all three. I play mine through some old Blackbacks that are basically greenbacks from the 70's and it sounds killer and some Weber 1265's which are awesome too. I have also have had great tones from V30's. I don't think these amps are as particular to speakers as people think. I suggest playing it through which ever speaker filter that you like. I prefer Greenies and H30's and would run ever amp I get through those filters.

Ironically I have never played an SLO and always wanted to try it out. You wanna switch amps for a week or so? ;)

First of all, that sounds killer. Great playing and cool tones.

Secondly, don't you know that you cannot play leads on or achieve great tones from a Splawn amplifier? You've read the Rig Talk threads. :D

Other amps come and go as the flavors of the month on all the forums while Splawn continues to be back-ordered 10-12 weeks for the past 6 years.
