i was just curious what you guys use out there when gigging ? just an amp and cab ? a rack as well ? a pedalboard with effects ? just trying to get some ideas as to where i wanna go with my set-up ...

Um, the answer lies in what YOU need when you gig, not what the rest of use when WE gig.

Start giggin' and go from there, Braddah...

Ain't rocket surgery :D

I try to use the same stuff as what I practice with. Usually it's a clean amp with pedals for gain/distortion, delay, tuner, and chorus. I try to stay simple. Just one or two guitars.

i am more or less just trying to get ideas, just in case someone mentions something that interests me, that i can find of use. i have always kept it simple with an amp, a couple guitars, and an OD pedal. i have been thinking of branching out and adding some stuff to the setup, which is why i ask about other peoples setups ...

Well, first thing I'd do is experiment with your amp's loop. Stick your simple stomps up front, but run a sweet, mild, consistent delay in the loop and see how it thickens up. This is something I do 100% of the time - practicing, playing, giggin', recording. Always have my delay in the loop to fatten up my tone. Secondly, experiment with volume levels and the chain of your FX. I found that things REALLY changed when I went from practice levels to gig levels, and needed to change the signal chain around to compensate for it.

For me? I'm a simpleton when it comes to my barebones gig approach - NO overdrive pedals, I use my amp's channels for that. I use a DD in the loop, I use a BMP/TW for some of my leads to get the sustain, an EHX Cathedral Reverb, and a clean MXR/CAE boost. That's the simplest of designs when gigging - just use the amp's FC to change up the actual channels and set them all to be at parity before I play for real.

The more bizarre approach I've taken is to employ a delay and reverb in the amp's loop, and in front? My pedalboard's signal chain is typically:
EHX Soul Preacher > MXR/CAE Boost/OD > Eventide PitchFactor > Fulltone Clyde Deluxe > OCD > BMP/TW > Eventide Mod > CAE/MXR Boost to AMP.... There's some variation in this set up with movable loops and signal chain, it gets weird sometimes, but there ya have it.

Peace Braddah.... Bottom line is, I've let my ears do the talking, and albeit I'm honing my tone pretty good for the last couple years, I know it'll always change and morph in time. So what's my pot 'o gold now, sure as likely ain't anyone else's, and vice versa :D

Peace :salute:

Here is my giging rig

I play in a cover band that does R&B/funk/dance/classic rock

Carol-Ann OD2 6L6 50watt combo.

Board
Sonic Research tuner
RC Boost
Mad Professor snow white auto Wah (must have if you want to get the funk on)
AC Boost
Lovepedal BabyFace Tremolo
MXR Vintage 70's Phaser RI (with analogman mods)
Analogman Mini Chorus

Providence 80's Delay (in the amp loop)
Wet Reverb (in the amp loop)

I guess it depends on the particular gig. I have a number of different rigs that I use for different gigs. Some are:
* head + cab + pedals; others are
* rack (preamp + rack FX + poweramp) + pedals.

Im pretty simple these days. I dont use a loop anymore so guitar > pedalboard > amp head > cab (or 2)

some sort of Marshally inspired head, 4x12 and a small pedal board (boost in front, delay/chorus in the fx loop).

Playing in a cover band, doing some dance, 70s, 80s, 90s stuff. Current rig:

Three guitars - usually a floyd and a fixed bridge, and usually an extra floyd. Recently I've been bringing an Anderson quilt drop top with floyd, a Charvel USA strathead socal, and a PRS Cu22 semi hollow quilt.

Goes into a Line 6 Relay 50 wireless, into a planet waves tuner, bad horsie II wah, fulltone fulldrive and a Phase 90 into a 2009 Freyette Ultra Lead. Fx loop has a TC repeater delay pedal.

Cab is a VHT fatbottom.

Sometimes I feel froggy and use a Bogner Ecstasy and matching cab instead of the Freyette/VHT, but I like how the VHT sounds more modern and pissed off. :)

i dont like effects loops so i tweek my herbert with a few pedals and use a whole nother amp for cleans....its the way i get my sound... for leads i shut off my gate

Most gigs i need paint, sprayer, ladder, etc. Just the typical stuff.

I have several rigs .... what I bring depends on the needs for that gig. But most of the time I bring a Strat, Les Paul, half stack, wa and phase (vibe).

Oh ya, I forgot the wah... My Fulltone Clyde Deluxe goes *everywhere* with me :D

For small jams and gigs, I have a modded Classic 30 Peavey, but this is a tough amp for anything outside of pedals or anything outside of very intimate jams. It's a project amp, loaded with top-shelf glass and a Celestion Gold Alnico 50W driver. It's pure butter and sounds amazingly fine, but not for everything - so this is a limited amp. I have 2 halfstacks in circulation, a VH4S with matching 4x12's and a 20thA with matching 4x12. Beasts to lug around, but I do, and the volume on tap has always been way more than sufficient. I am eyeballing a 50W head and a 2x12 cab for more mobility. I can then take either one of my heads or the new 50W (Shiva, Einstein, or something along these lines) and with the stomps, get where I need to go sonically.

The pedalboard is a work in progress. It's complex due to the fact that I'll need the ability to work with a variety of loops in amps, serial in front of amps, stereo/mono output, etc. It's a full time mindf*ck for me, but it'll get done in the next few months :D

I usually bring 2 guitars - EBMM Petrucci as a main and my Jackson as a backup.

I run my guitar to the amp via a boss volume pedal -> wah -> Mark IV.
I bring my Mesa 4X12 or 2X12 or both :)
I also have a Rocktron intellifex in the loop of the Mark IV.
I have an RJM RG-16 to control the amp and the effect.

I also have a Mesa Electradyne but I bring it only as a backup.

Rack case with power conditioner, axe-fx and shure IEM system....2 or 3 guitars depending on which band...and a pod x3 live to control everything and to serve as a backup. Pretty simple.

At the moment, my only consistent "gig" is playing at a church every week. For that I keep it nice and simple, guitar -> amp -> cab. No frills or pedals or anything.

Depends on which group, I play greatly differing styles of music with a handful of groups.
I have several heads and cabs to select from according to what will fit the genre as well as the volume level required, and size of the venue and stage.
I'm not a huge effects guy, but I do have everything I need regardless of what I'm playing or what amp I'm using, on one pedal board.
Amps range from 50 to 100 watts, cabs are 1x12, 2x12, 4x12.
THE MOST IMPORTANT piece of gear I've ever added to accomplish the range of what I do is the THD Hotplate.
Seriously, I almost never NOT use it.
Best advice I've gotten on gear in chat forums was from Ed Degenaro here, telling me to get the Hotplate.
Much of my tone, even on clean jazz stuff, is built around pushing the tubes a little.
The Hotplate lets me get my tone and goes a long way to making the sound crew happy as well.

I use my Hot Plate a lot.

Just 1 channel switching amp & cab.

Or a cool thing to do is run a Marshall head into an attenuator, then line out to the effects loop return of a Roland Jazz Chorus combo amp. Crank the Marshall, use an A/B box in front to change between the front of the Roland and the Marshall, there ya go.
