Just got a rev 2 uber.

I think something may be wrong.

the clean channel has to have the vol and gain dimed to get any decent clean volume.

the gain channel is plenty loud and has lots of gain, but not uber gain.

my peavey 5150 easily has way more gain.

I checked all the tubes and fuses.

Is this the way the amp is?

ps

with gain and vol maxed on the clean channel there is no breakup, the channel stays clean.

help needed

thanks in advance!

i tested the tubes by swapping em around, no change.

gonna pull out the tube tester tonight.

how much of a discrepancy in the channels volume?

The discrepancy between channels is normal on the Rev 2. Turn up the master volume and the volume knob on the clean channel to compensate.

What kind of tubes are in it?

it has tesla el34 and ars chinese pre amp tubes.

I've got a rev blue and the clean channel is not very loud at all, not even in the remotely same ballpark as channel 2. I think this is a well known thing, supprised you did not know this from researching before purchasing...or maybe it was a quick trade idk. As far as gain, mine has a shitload of gain, one of the highest gain heads I have ever played right up there with my 6505+ but maybe not quite so much (hard to tell they sound completely diff but both gainy as hell). So I'm kinda surprised you say your peavey has way more gain, I could see saying it has more but not sure about way more.

well it sure has DIFFERENT gain.

much less compression in the uberschall. great for low string riffing a chugs, but more difficult for sustained fluid leads.

it actually kind of reminds me of the rectos that i used in the past.

i think that i might need to use a boost in order to get that singing lead sound and feel that i am after.

I am still learning the amp for sure.

Replace the power tubes with JJ E34Ls. You won't be sorry. I love mine boosted with a Maxon OD 808. It can get very tight and aggressive when you crank it.

Twin Jet was my favorite Über by far. Easily could play leads on it. Great amp.
Rev 2 wasn't for me at all.

can you elaborate on this for me?

thanks

i think i have a set of jj e34l sitting around that i will try.

I get FANTASTIC lead tones out of mine. Singing with endlsess sustain and controlled feedback on demand. Love the amp very much.

Bedroom crap clip I just recorded at talking levels as kids are asleep. The recorder is just a digital Edirol hand job so it's not great but I get a good lead sound for me and though I prefer both Master and lead channel volume at 1:00 this is both at below 9:00. With volume beyond 1:00 on master and lead channel it really comes alive.

That clip sounded great! Very dark and snarly...sounds mean and thick.

Real nice clip, sounds killer, good representation of amp and even though you have it set low on both volumes this shows how good it does low volumes and whats even better when you get it cranked up past noon on both volumes and then some it REALLY sounds good. And the thump is just unreal

The Ubers have always sounded fantastic at lower volumes. I wouldn't own two of them right now if they didn't, given my current (and oh-so soon to end) living situation. :)

Rev 2 and TJ are both cool amps, clean channel on Rev 2 (blue) is pretty sterile...but not terrible - takes fuzz pedals well :D
