UL Heads, Which KT88's for a Fryette Ultralead?

I would like to know if any of you guys have any experience with different KT88's in the Pitt UL other than the stock Sovs. Should i venture into 6550 territory?

I'm just curious to see if there is a significant difference to be had with other tube makes or not?

Penta labs KT88SC (made by shuguang special for penta) These are not the same as the regular KT88's made for Ruby and Valve art. These are on par and even better than the SED's which is my second choice. High power, very tight.

Doug's Tubes is the only dealer I know that carries the Penta's

I preferred JJ's over the stock (Sovtek if I remember correctly) KT88's. The JJ's opened up the sound, making it slightly more lively and less cold.

+1 for JJ's I tried svetlanas, but didn't like the harshness. I actually prefer sovtek but the JJ's
Sounded good, with a few RFT's in the pre.

The Solvteks sound killer in the ultralead. Played one with jj's and it was a bit darker. The solvteks seam a bit more musical to my ears.

I need some for my UL and will likely get either Sovteks or Shuguangs.
The KT88's in my 2203KK sound great, not sure what they are though since they are Marshall labeled. Sovteks probably...?

I tried a bunch when I had mine....ended up back at the Sovteks. They are great in the UL.

I haven't had much luck with Chinese tubes,it's always been
Russian, Russian tubes have always had a warmer tone IMO
Expensive tubes doesn't always mean better tone.
I see the northern electric tubes but who really wants to spend
That much coin? Unless its for home audio .
Sovteks are cheap,strong and they've lasted the longest in
My amps.

I tried JJ and Ruby KT88s and Tung Sol 6550. Found the Sovteks worked best for me.

old thread bump I missed. Sounds extremely good with the Sovteks but
gonna order some of the Penta Kt88's for my Ultra Lead this week just to see if it can get any better.
killer amp and in my top 2 amps ive ever owned right up there with my 20th XTC.
