Just picked this thing up... 2009 Splawn Nitro... Traded even for my 5153. Been curious about these for a while and when I saw it posted here and he was interested in a 5153 trade, I figured against my better judgement (as I was looking to go much smaller) what the hell could it hurt?! haha!

Rick aka Fragglerick made it easy and drove right down the street from my work so I couldn't complain at all. Straight up dude! Even gave me his bands CD. Pretty good tunes!

Can't wait to get this thing back to the studio and plug it in! Now I really need to sell the rest of my stuff so I can get the Orange 212 I want to go with it haha!

I remember liking mine when I had it but I ended up flipping it to fund my Cobra. Get this: The main reason I got rid of it was that I wasn't completely, 100% happy with the effects loop. When I got my Cobra I discovered exactly how bad a bad loop can be.
Anyway, hope you dig it.

I've been down the Framus Cobra route haha That loop is a shit show for sure. I don't typically run a ton of effects however I am going to assemble a small board with an OD808, MXR Carbon Copy, JC95 Wah, Volume Pedal and Tuner so hopefully it'll jive.

I plan to use the Volume in the loop as an attenuator sort of. I know it's a hokey redneck way of doing it. But I am moving into a condo and want the ability to drop the volume and not lose the drive. I use to do it with my JVM when I had it at my apt, so I figured it might work. Time will tell I suppose haha

Aww shucks, you say the sweetest things. :D
Enjoy it dude. I'm gonna try to get to the studio tonight and fire up the5153. Been wanting one of these for a while.

Might be time to change your avatar? :D

Congrats!

I am curious to get your opinion on the Nitro vs EVH and JVM.

I traded a JVM for a Nitro and went back to the JVM before going full Kemper.
The Nitro has such a unique low end

Congrats. My recent purchase of a 2005 Quickrod is about to make me sell my 5153. I like the Splawn so much better for what I play.

Phil is a good guy to deal with - Fragglerick, you're gonna love that amp - I miss it!

Congrats on a good deal guys!

Once I am able to find a nice Orange 2x12 closed back cab to pair it to, I will take a picture and change the avatar. Right now it's literally just sitting on the shelf in the studio  I really want to play it but the Mesa cabs are prepped to sell and move asap. Hopefully that happens sooner than later cause I'm dying to hear this thing!

Thanks bud! I'll miss that thing too, it was just too much for what I do these days. Even the Splawn is likely too much but I'll deal with it haha

Very nice! I dig the tribal graphics. But I'm biased. I picked-up a 2012 Quickrod tribal half-stack for chump change last year. :D

DAMN! $800?! For a Half Stack?! RICKKKKKKKKKKKK I'm gonna need some cash on top now buddy lmfao!!! That's a hell of a deal right there!

So, everyone seems to throw model year into descriptions of these amps. Were there any distinct changes from year to year through any of these amps? I'm pretty curious now. I never really considered a Splawn until recently and this deal just kind of was too hard to pass up. I'm not very educated at all on them.

I was sitting in a work meeting, browsing the used section of a music store 140 miles away (Music Villa in Bozeman, MT) when I stumbled on that ad. I immediately excused myself from the meeting, walking out in the hall and called them. I asked if that was the right price or a misprint. He said that it was the correct price. I don't think they ever get Splawn stuff in there. At any rate, I said "SOLD!" and gave him my credit card info. Drove up the next day to pick it up. Best deal I've ever got on a piece of music gear by far.

I don't know as much about the Nitros or other Splawn amps, but I know that he did some tweaks to the Quickrod over the years that guys were saying the 2012 and later ones were the best. I'm not sure I even remember what those tweaks were or how much of a difference they make.

I scored a deal like that on an Ibanez RG4EX1 recently. It was on CL for $100! Guy said it was only a 2 year model so it wasn't very desirable... I know they really aren't a big deal of a guitar, but for $100... Totally worth the fact that it hasn't left the stand since I bought it haha It's always fun when you score a deal like that.

Yup... I rarely get stupid deals like that, but it sure is fun when I do! I only plug into the Splawn every other week or so, because I play my Friedman Smallbox most of the time. But honestly, whenever I do plug into the Splawn I always wonder "why don't I play this amp more???". It's as awesome as any other tube amp IMO. It doesn't have the ability to roll-off the guitar volume and still sound awesome as well as the Friedman stuff does. But outside of that, there's nothing lacking at all in the Splawn stuff.
