If you want more gain turn up the volume knob to 8-9. The volume and treble knob when turned up add gain along with the lead drive.

Nice, welcome to the Mesa mark series club. Does your Mark III already have the R2 mod done? Also curious what speaker is in the combo?

yeah i figured i was stupid not to do the trade.
i only got the vetta less than a month ago and decided to try sell it to jump on the axe-fx ultra wagon...but this mark may just see me throught.

i know sweet fark all bout these amps so thanks to the post for the manual (was gonna look it up this mornign)...i\
ve clocked a few hours on a friends mark IV and plenty of time on road kings/rectifiers...and decided that i prefered the mark series over the rectifiers.

its got a black shadow speaker.

and RE the first reply...ill give the volume a shot.
i had a bit of trouble at first trying to dial out the (blanket over speaker) tone...but that was until i discovered the presence knob on the back!!! i didnt have much time with it as the trade was done around 8pm at night and
i got a bit confused with the knobs, but thats because im not used to the fender style knob layout.
im gonna go home and set everything at 5 and start again. (i know this thing is pretty loud as i discovered when i pulled one of the knobs out and was slammed across the room)

and can anyone fill me in on where/waht this "blue" stripe thing is about?
