Yes, i was about to sell it, but since i undusted it and checked the bias currents (shit this thing is heavy), i remembered i wanted to try the cold biasing that was discussed here.
So more like 25 instead of more like 35mA per tube. This open the mids right up and the stuffiness/congestion i kind of like, but also regulary annoyed me, is gone.
Sounds more cold and therefore more evil.
It's now got a kind of mesa flavour to it (i also run an EQ in front to get more string clarity)! maybe a tad higher bias would be better, but so far so good!
While i was at it, i also moved the feedback from the 8 to the 4 ohm tab.
more raw, in your face, more sizzle!
Wow, that's what i wanted it to sound all along! super throaty with a nice rasp up top, instead of the rather smooth, fat, bloated nature before...
it's been a long time, so i don't know if it reminds me more of a uber or a recto, but it cured that itch for now.
