Well I am no longer wanting to update the transformer on my Friedman-modded Marshall due to "brightness". I didn't realize it at the time but there was something slightly wrong with my amp. I think I may have a loose connection, etc. so I sent the amp back to Dave for a quick fix.
As with most tone situations, I was thinking that the harshness I was hearing was just ear fatigue, my choice of cabinet, etc. I was flicking a switch on the back of the amp and then suddenly the beefy, low-end and tightness was back. I was able to turn up the treble, presence, etc. with no sterile tone or harshness.
