Kay, so I used the Axe a couple of weeks ago XLR into monitors and FOH, and it was okay but certainly not a liberating experience. That said the place I used it at always has way too much top end in the monitors not matter how dark I set my amps. So, I didn't give it too much thought.
But I finally got around to retiring the Mosvalve and get a VHT 2/50/2 and rewiring my THD 2x12 with Golds to a stereo cab.
First thing unlike the customary 3-4 trips to the car this was one trip with everything stacked sky high on the rack. :)

I still need some tweaks for my lead tone up on the top strings above the 12th fret, when using a drive block since the single coils want to "run away". But that's no biggie.
Both my old school broken up cleanish tone, and my high gain rhythm where something to behold.
Also the routing was THE SHIT!
I ran the XLR out to the drummers headphone mix, and the efx loop to the VHT power amp. With some patches set so the unmiked speaker had a volume boost for leads for more what I'm used to on stage.
The I had the voicing switch on the VHT set to the darker voicing for the miked speaker, and the brighter for the unmiked speaker.

Bottom line, I get why Scott P. is so over the moon. I already fell in love with it for recording, but this very well looks like it's gonna be my go to rig for my money gig.
And the wanna be Marshall/Ac30 duo I have dialed in feels great the way it reacts to volume changes on the guitar.
No quite as broad a dynamic range as my Flexi, but that's the most extreme responding amp I use.

I'm dying to spend more time with one of these! I got to play one for a short time a few weeks back although I didn't do any tweaking of my own, and was impressed all around.

Interesting. It seems that Fractal Audio has done some amazing job with this unit. The price isn't bad considering that the amp models sound good according to many people, models are very tweakable, FX quality is good, routing possibilities are endless etc.

Ed, I think I've asked you this before but do you know this country band from Sweden called "Willy Clay Band"? http://www.willyclayband.com/ My high school music teacher plays lap-steel, dobro etc in that band and they've had couple of nice gigs in USA too. They're called "the Swedes" in USA quite often.

You have indeed.

It is nice to see objective folks beyond the zealots/evangelists who are really digging the Axe Fx.

I think it is the best single piece of gear I have ever purchased, but ain't about to say it is the be all end all for everyone.

Glad you are digging the unit Ed

I don't see myself selling my 15 or so amps, but I certainly will be using that set-up a lot.
