Bought a new S2 Custom 22, and just got it back from the tech!
Major upgrades:
Bridge PU: SD Custom
Neck PU : SD '59
New 3-way switch
CTS pots
.047uf Orange Drop cap
Treble Bleed
All new wiring
Bridge blocked for dive-only, and ease of Drop-D.
Absolutely killer playing, and sounding!

Had one of the se Floyd's, maybe not a good comparison however it was smooth and stable! This topic hits home as I was all over the map wanting either an S2 or a CE. Hard to know which trigger to pull. Patern regular? Which at 1st I was like hmm then it started feeling like home! The hardware and electronics are the same? and the fretwork is the same? The CE has a flame or possible quilt top. The S2 has the maple cap so it's nothing sonic with the tops is my guess? I wasnt sure what was the better option really. Hope you dig yours , seems the upgrades took out the guesswork I was flip flopping on. I am sure it's getting ripped frequently!! Cheers

Nice guitar and mods.
Coil-taps, a treble bleed and blocked trem are mandatory for my fiddles.

How do you like the SD Custom? I'm considering one for a LP i have.

The Custom is, and has been my favorite Duncan. PAF on steroids, but tight and more aggressive. It's an excellent pickup that literally does it all.

Nice guitar man. Looks like a beast. Dig that red too.

Classy looking guitar. I bet it sounds as good as it looks too.

I pondered the same thing, S2 vs CE.. I was sure I wouldn't like the pickups in the CE either, (even though I think those are USA), and also no case, and same hardware as the S2. I couldn't justify the $400 price difference, and I actually prefer a finished neck. Plus, another chunk for upgrades on the CE.

Me and my buddy salivated over the PRS guitars at Sweetwater Gearfest this weekend. Beautiful guitars!

Buckeyedog here on the forum has a PRS SE that I played a few years ago and I was blown away at how awesome a guitar in that price range played.

I have a question. How do those S2 models compare to the CE models of a decade ago? I always thought that those old CE's were gems.

What pickups were originally in it ? HFS/Vintage Bass ? If so, hit me up if you let em go. I may possibly be interested

Agreed, and perfect for a Les Paul.

main difference is bolt-on maple-rosewood vs set/glued mahagony-rosewood. Another is shitty HW and pickups on S2, different top carve. Also finished on S2 are rather ugly and some of their satin looks like worst PRS finish ever. Although this napalmdeath´s looks very nice. CE’s are on par with any other PRS.

The S2's are very inconsistent. Some tops are bland, some are gorgeous! Mine's pretty nice, but I've seen better.

I was told by the luthier mine had a one piece maple top, and the CE24 he had there, (a newer satin finish), was a veneer.

OK. Thanks guys. I am not a PRS guy in general but I can appreciate the bang for buck factor in most CE's that I have played. I am also not a fan of the crazy tops like most.
Lol.
