Used a 412 that wasn't mine today at practice...

...and realized how much I love my Fatbottom 412s w/V30 in them. I guess I have made the switch completely from rear loaded to front loaded cabs. I prefer them by far for modern metal tones. The low end is tighter and more focused than a rear loaded cab and I overall just like the sound more. Since my V30s have broken in, my cabs have been sounding monstrous. I missed them today.

Fyi - I used a Diamond 412 with V30/H30 mix and then switched to a Mesa Recto cab with stock V30s.

I have the deliverance cab loaded with gk100s.... And it's ridiculous. I've heard good things about front loaded v30s! Ill need to try them out sometime. I like them in. my orange though its rear loaded.

I had been using rear loaded cabs all of my life until a year ago when I got my Fatbottom cabs. For modern metal tone there is nothing better....for me.

Same here I've always had a rear loaded cab, I recently bought the fat bottom cab and I just got a Randall war head cab.
Very happy with them both. The orientation of the speakers FL-vs-RL really does make a difference.

Oh yeah, the Warhead cabs are FL aren't they? Always thought those were pretty cool cabs.

yea it's front loaded

I have a Randall 4x12 (front loaded V30's) and a Mesa recto 4x12 (rear loaded V30's) Both of the cabs are well broken in, and I prefer the Randall cab. It is Much more focused, and tight. I like the Mesa cab with my recto, but the Randall cab is great with any amp.

Yea. More focused and tight really describes a front loaded cab. But v30s when broken in are fantastic regardless!

Feels good to feel a new appreciation for a piece of gear.

I'm still :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: with my P50e loaded Deliverance. Honestly, I think Fryette make some of the finest cabs out there. Tank-like build and awesome sounding.

Go figure

The Fatbottom, new Uberkab, and german built Diezel cabs are all about as good as it gets.

Cool. How'd the Diamond and Mesa cabs compare? I prefer the Stiletto 412 to the Recto 412 (although vise versa with the 212s) and I've never heard a Diamond cab.

Do you prefer FL for playing styles other than metal? I know you play some other shit and rock a tele now and then...

I never knew that,good to know though,i want a new 4x12. I'd like a Fryette but i didn't think they use stock V-30s

They don't, this is an aftermarket change out. They come stock with the Eminence made P50e 50W speaker - caveat, they typically sound like ass until they're broken in. After that, they're actually very nice sounding cones. I think a lot of people just can't handle the break in period - it's a good 40 hours. But seriously, once worked in, they sound damn fine

I also prefer the Stiletto cabs (used to be called Rectifier Traditional back in the day). Oversize cabs like Mills, Rectos, Mode 4s have always sounded boomy and looser to me compared to a regular 412.

The Diamond cab was ok, it was a bit hollow sounding but it could have been the jam room we were in. I have yet to play a Diamond amp that I give a rat's ass about but the cab seemed ok. As for other styles of music, especially when I am playing my Tele, I still really like my old Marshall cabs. That being said, I am usually using one of my NMV Marshalls or Bassman as well. Truth is, now that these V30s are nicely broken in, they are sounding really good with vintage tones.

I agree. I used the P50Es in my FB cabs for about 6 months and got them pretty broken in. I really liked them for ultra brutal stuff but felt they lacked versatility for other applications. I was using V30s for 15 years also and I just really got super used to them as part of my sound.

I demand this thread get nuked...or someone start a thread about how bad Fatbottom cabs suck! :D I've been moving gear in order to free up cash and these are not the types of threads I need to be seeing    .

New thought.....

Anyone compare the older Mesa front loaded cabs to these newer style current FL cabs?

I'm really starting to hate my Mesa Recto cab, and was thinking on grabbing one of those older FL cabs to replace the recto.

I've always wondered about the older style mesa cabs, never had the opportunity to try one.

Just look around and you might be able to find a great deal and not have to free up as much cash as you'd expect. I got an almost mint VHT Fatbottom at Guitar Center for $400
