Used Bogner shiva head or EVH mini 50 watt?

actually, it's a reverse gain cut, not an actual boost
it's kinda like the effect of reducing the gain pot a bit, but as a switch

I don't think the Shiva lacks gain
it's just not super aggressive
still a hot rodded JCM, a lot like a Jose without the diodes, but fat and creamy instead of bright and edgy

This is tough! I can't decide. Been searching for a used shiva 20th too. I can pay 1700 for that one..
 
This may be a stupid question but have you played either one of these amps before?? If you have an opportunity, I highly reccomend you do so. The 5150 III 50 watt has been on my radar since they were first announced. I stopped into a local shop a couple of weeks ago and they actually had several in stock. Now I had absolutely no intentions of buying an amp that day but after I played it, there was no way I was leaving the store without one.

I've never played a shiva so can't really comment on it but my point is if at all possible - Try before you buy. I'm fortunate that most of the amps that I have been interested can be found in my area and as a result, I pretty much refuse to buy an amp without playing it in person. Just my $.02.
 
I played a bogner 6l6 combo and I played the 20th for 3 hours in Ultrasound studios in NYC. I briefly played the 100 watt 5150. I have other rigs and I will make either one work I'm just looking for advice from people who played both or gigged either one. I can get to a shop with a 5150 50 watt tomorrow...thanks for the input
 
I'm thinking the 5150 for now and the demand is strong that even if I don't keep it for long I can flip it and find a used shiva.
 
Done. Found a 5150 and scored a nice deal on it. I look forward to reporting back! I will get around to a shiva one of these days....

Yeah, I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the 5150 too. I had an eye on that one.
