Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get expert opinions on this. There is a guy locally selling a used (obviously) Rivera Knucklehead II head with matching 4x12 for $1100 (Canadian dollars, about equivalent in USD these days).

Good price or no? I've also been trying to find out how the II differs from the newer K-Tre amps in terms of sound and such. Having trouble there, as well.

Thanks!

Great price, I would more expect like 1000$ the head and 400$ the cab - at least that is.

Around here anyway that's a very good price when for both. The II has a brighter gain channel with less gain and less low end but still way more then enough. I think I ran mine at like 8 or 9 but run the tre at 5. The clean channels are similar where the II has a built in ninja boost to get some bluesy type grit out of the clean channel and the tre doesn't. Both are great amps and overall I would say in the same ballpark tone wise. I think the older knucklehead you get the brighter they get with gain getting lower. I'm going from memory though so, well, you know :)

thanks everyone.

I have never played through a Rivera amp personally, because where I live there is simply no access to these sorts of higher end amps.

I have owned a couple amps bought solely on research, which includes sound clips, YouTube, reviews, etc. They have been good purchases. I have always been interested in Rivera's Tre series, known for both the great modern high gain sounds and clean channel. That's exactly what I look for, a great clean that can work with active pickups and a modern high gain sound (I play a lot of modern hard rock, "core"ish stuff and punk).

I figure, if the Knucklehead II is still relatively close to a Tre (and there is far more to read and listen to about the Tre online), this might be a good deal. But of course some guys on this forum have far more personal experience with these amps and hopefully there are more of you on here who have played both!

Thanks again for those who have weighed in! Much appreciated.

I have contacted the seller and hopefully I'll get an opportunity to try it out!!

Bring somebody to help carry the cab - Rivera cabs aren't known for being light :)

The II was replaced by the Reverb fairly quickly, so they probably didn´t end up making that many of them. Compared to the K-Tre it will have less gain and bass on the lead channel, but the clean channel will be very similar. Definitely a less modern and extreme amp... from what I can remember of it, it sits between the original Knucklehead and the Reverb, but closer to the Reverb.
