As far as the guitar goes, clean it once a day with pledge and the smell will all be gone within 2 weeks dude...the case is a different story...you can fabreeze it and the smell will go away for a while, but I have found that if you take baking powder and put it in there and the let it sit a few days and then vacuum it all out that it will start getting rid of the smell. Also, leave it outside as much as you can. It goes away, just takes time. (a LONG time) But the guitar you can get it out of it pretty easily. Soak the the fretboard in rosewood or lemon oil and leave it on there for an hour or 2...thats where most of the smell is coming from if the rest of the guitar is finished...the fretboard is the most porous part of the guitar and the smell seeps into the actual wood, so you need to penetrate that in order to get rid of the smell....
As far as the whole disclosing if a guitar smells like smoke or not...that is a wash....when I see an add that something was in a non smoking home I like it that much more, but I would NEVER expect someone to post an add saying "owned by heavy smoker" LOLOL I mean seriously...it used to be any guitar that was gigged spent major time in a bar that reeked of stale beer and cigarette smoke???? I assume every used guitar smells of cigarettes unless it states non smoking home....
