Using external preamp with Einstein?

If you are reading this Peter, hello from Georgia! The country, not the state... Will be here for a couple years. Have my studio set up and just noticed that when I run an external preamp's line out to the effects return on the Einstein, that there is no output at the speaker. I have tried the serial and the parallel return. I also tested the effects loop by plugging in some effects and it worked. So I am confused as to what might be happening.

Anyone have any ideas?

Plug a dummy cable into the Einstein's input and see if that works.

Wow, brilliant. Now it works... Thanks! But I am wondering what it would take to mod the amp so that is not necessary?
