I think our postal service is declining. I have had more issues recently than ever before. Two lost packages. Late on probably three out of five. This one is ridiculous. It was correctly labeled for Australia. Had to refund the buyer. Sent back here only to be sent back to the same wrong Country. Another one today should have been here and is not. What's going on? Budget cuts, outsourcing mail movement. It's a shame as this is one of our oldest institutions going downhill. Anyone else having issues. I have had maybe 15 transactions in the last two months with an issue with about half of them or more.

It is declining. Has been for the past few years. The 'more with less' attitude will only work so far until people start screwing up.
What used to be 3 jobs is now 1 guys responsibility. Its crazy.
What used to be mandatory work that needs to be done daily ....is now shoved into the corner and 'we will get to it when we have time' is what supervision tells the clerks.
It is bad.

I know Dan. It's sad. My PO said all the mail is transferred by private carriers. That USPS got rid of most of its tractor fleet. Contracts go to the lowest bidders, and the service is nowhere near what it used to be. I knew several guys who took the retire early deals. Most other guys I know are just bidding their time. No work moral or pride left.

We had a huge sorting facility in my home city. Had about 300 postal employees working here and putting money into the local economy. Well the plant now has 5 workers in it. All the machines are gone. Crazy. If I mail a letter to my neighbor he will get it in about 3 days. It has to go down near detroit to a sorting facility. Then work its way back up.
Your right....no one cares at a higher level and it trickles down. Most common workers "Carriers/Sorting clerks/Window clerks" are being treated as if its our fault "Their Numbers" cant be met. Its insane. I have never seen a place where you never ever mention the good that someone does or did.
They run it on "well you could of....or why didnt you..."
Negative crap. Gets old after awhile and most people that have been around for years just brush off the middle management when they come with this shit.

They really taped the USPS via budget cuts....somebody really wants to fully privitize the mail system .

Ive read that no tax dollars are used to fund the postal system... further, that congress extracts money from the postal system in fees? anyone else heard of this?

Yes. True on all accounts.
Inspector General did an audit few years back and showed the Government owed USPS over a Billion dollars from taking the funds that were 'pre-funded' for future retirees. Think it will ever be paid back? I dont think so.

This has been going on for years. It's sickening. Congress needs to have terms. Never going to happen since our government is a self serving class of it's own.

Yup.....the only Govt. organization that had to 'pre-fund' its future retirees.
Then when USPS started losing money (do to the pre-funding) Postmaster General went to congress to get the Prefunding stopped. He was told NO numerous times. Damn near to the point USPS was going Bankrupt by giving the Government all this money. Govt cut a break (real big of them) and said no pre-funding for a while. Post Office getting back in the black again....but Upper management keeps crying we are broke and still wants to keep cutting more jobs.
Its not like the Carrier hiring in makes tons of cash. Starting wage is $15.00 an hour. While the Post Master general and all the cronies bring in millions.
Yet the craft employee is who is to blame. :gethim:

Too many Indians (middle management), and not enough Chiefs!

We have the same sorting facility crap Mailman mention. Live in Kansas, our mail is now sorted in Texas! Former one day letter, is now 3 days to week. :scared:

I work in the railroad system in New York and its just as bad bro.I'm seriously thinking of a new career.

well when you lose 5 billion a year they have to try and do something I guess.

Postal service??? They have to fund certain portions of the federal gov before they can consider any income towards the black. This happened under marvelous George and the Republican congress 10 or more years ago. Its not their fault. Hands are tied. Not saying they were perfect before, but now thanks to Bush and Co they have no chance. And what's even worse??? Those clowns also tried to take money out of their pension funds...welcome back Jimmy Hoffa.

Not sure about outbound from the US for international posts, but inbound, EMS (postal cooperative) subcontracts DHL/FEDEX/UPS for international inbound parcels to the US. Knock on one, have had good luck. Nothing missing, but a couple have been rather late.

Good information to clarify the decline. I'm sure it's throughout many sectors such as posted about the Railroad.

Maybe I am missing something? Why would you use United States Postal Service to ship something between 2 foreign counties, Austria to Australia? No offense to mail couriers but they're a bunch of divas around my parts. They won't even get out of their truck to deliver my mail if the mail box is blocked by a car. And this isn't a new habit they have been like that the entire 7 yrs I've lived at this address. USPS problems are much deeper than just the "Higher level".

They've had problems for years. I bought a guitar via eBay about 10 yrs that was shipped by USPS. Came from the south east (Virginia or Kentucky) to MN. It took 21 days. Why?? I can walk that far in 21 days. Maybe they should of never started shipping large packages. Moral of the story don't call a plumper to fix your car.

USPS is part of a global consortium of post office around the globe. they all have a cooperation with each other. EMS is the global postal company. cheaper than the big 3 international couriers by a considerable margin.
