So I was shopping for a v last week as it's really the last thing on my shopping list for the foreseeable future. Saw a gloss black gold hardware new pro series jackson for 750 new at my local sam ash. These typically go for 999 so I was excited. Picked it up and plugged it into a little marshall dsl. Horrible noise, like louder than notes. Switched to a black star combo same result. Looked at the tone knob which was very loose and wobbly but touching it didn't reduce the noise any. My guess it was a grounding issue but with the other irritations I just put it back on the shelf which is unfortunate cause I never see this particular model locally. Thankfully it was screwed up or I would have bought it and that may have been a bad move since my wife was with me at the time.

It's funny that she pays very little attention to my guitar playing and almost seems to loathe it but I can write a beat and put a simple bass line and piano part with it and she is will ask "what is the name of that song and who is it by? thats nice!" Then seems completely shocked when I tell her its me. Which is weird considering her playlist will go from anything like bollywood soundtracks to 80's music to gangsta rap to black sabbath or early ozzy to Corrosion of Conformity or Danzig era misfits so it's not like she doesn't enjoy heavy music...

At any rate she has known me since first grade and knows how much I love Randy Rhoads. I probably had 4 or 5 Rhoads shirts in 8th grade and at least 2 when we dated in 10th grade. She made the comment that the right v or rhoads model for me has become my white whale. Goddammit that could not have been more true. I'm a simple man I just wanted a gloss black with chrome/gold hardware and Ebony fretboard. There are two current models in the pro series that fits this but I wanted to lay hands on it first. For some reason my corner of N.C. we only get the JS series or the occasional x series with some hard "no" spec.

This reminds me, I saw Chubtone post a project v that was very EVH in cosmetics but it does have me optimistic that they may start offering more pointy v shapes. I gotta say my last guitar that I got from them has basically made my other guitars just declarations in my man cave. The Explorer I have from them is great as well. If I could get 24 frets and a few other shapes from them I honestly would likely never buy from another guitar company.

TLDR; I'm really hoping to find a v or rhoads sig that ticks all the boxes with some decent QC. Do you guys have something on your shopping list that you can never find the right one for you? I was like that while shopping for an explorer but my Chubtone Explorer solved that problem. I've gotten a lot pickier over the past 3 or 4 years but I've learned that this actually saves me money.

I'm interested into knowing what you guys have for your preferences whether it's a guitar or amp or cab? Do you have a "white whale" gear purchase? Is there something you have spec wise that nobody offers? Etc?

Second hand Gibson Vs from Sweetwater on Reverb (GearNuts) are a good deal. I bought a black one for a great price, and can't see the dings they are talking about
