Ok recently got a cab with v30's in it for 200 dollars it's a line 6 spider valve version. What is the difference in those vs Mesa v30's? I have noticed Mesa cabs (some of them) sound like they have a blanket over them or something not letting highs out. The last mesa cab I had didn't sound good with certain amps in particular the MarkV. I had tried the markv through a orange cab with v30's and that cut down on the harshness I was getting out of the Mesa cab MarkV combination. Did mesa start putting cheaper speakers in the cabs that went to Guitar center towards the end or something? Because after listening to a comparison between the Mesa v30 and a Chinese v30 the Chinese one sounded more like the v30 in my last Mesa cab. Also is the spider valve v30's going to sound like crap?

Don’t know, but I have an "expensive" 4x12 with the blanket tone (my only v30 experience). I always thought that’s how v30s sound, and I hugely dislike it. Never understood people saying they sound harsh as they sound exactly the opposite to me. So interested as well...

Could be your cabs construction, I don't own mesa or orange cabs but I have a cab with V30s, I don't really like them either, they are far too harsh for at home playing, I always have to EQ an amp to the speaker on very odd settings. but I wouldn't describe them as having a blanket over it

The Mesa V30s are definitely smoother than the regular ones. To my ears, they're closer to how the V30s used to sound.

Celestion makes a special V30 for Mesa Boogie. Definitely smoother.

-(MESA PROPRIETARY- Celestion V-30's haven't changed)-

-Sounds like your talking about an OS RECTO CAB & STANDARD SIZED STILLETTO-(STRAIGHT)-CAB-(Over Sized cabs are 3" taller)-

-(There's a lot of variable's)-

Cab cab cab. Biggest variable. Had a Rivera cab with Chinese v30s, next to a Mesa cab with British v30s. We all know they are voiced differently, yet the Rivera cab sounded identical to the Mesa. The Rivera cabs are made just like the Bogner cabs, same company. Your Line 6 cab will probably sound nasty because of the cab construction.

I have a Bogner 1x12 and an os 2x12 and these are the only cabs I ever liked with V30’s.
The same speakers have been installed in other cabs I had over different periods and they never sounded as good as they do in the Bogner cabs.

I've tried V30s in various cabs over the years, but never really had them sound like a blanket was over the cab or anything like that. Had them in a Peavey 412 (old ones that came with K100s stock), Avatar contemporary 412, Aftershock massively oversized 212, Avatar signature 212, Mesa halfback 412, Mesa Thiele 112, a random birch ply 112 that I got on ebay, and currently in my Fender MH412. Sounded pretty much the same in all of the cabs, from what I can remember...just minor differences. Biggest differences were between the Mesa and regular V30s. Funnily enough, the Mesa V30 that I had in the random 112 was the best sounding combination for V30s in all of those cabs.

I just stick with Eminence Legend V12s, for the most part. My Mesa Halfback 412, Avatar Signature 212, and Fender MH412 (just a pair in this one, with V30s in the other spots) all have V12s in them.

Lol well maybe it's just me I've had 4 different Mesa cabs and they have all sounded different especially the last one.

I think Mesa builds really nice cabs. Maybe someone swapped the speakers before you got them. Also don't cget they Mesa puts different speakers in depending on what model cab. C90, v30, EV etc.

No they were for sure v30's the wierd thing is it wasn't sealed like my first mesa cab and wasn't as heavy I think they cut corners towards the end of thier gc contract.

What do you mean it wasn't sealed? I seriously doubt Mesa Boogie cut corners on their cabs at any point. I've owned various Mesa 4x12s from the past 4 decades and they've all been extremely solid.

Mesa V30s are made to different specs than all others and their dipped jute grills supposedly cut down on highs. I prefer regular UK V30s to the Mesa variety.

I keep reading users find v30s harsh and shrill. I have yet to find it in a cab w/v30s. Could be my playing. As we know everyone has diffenet styles. I had one of the L6 cabs with 30s. I didnt notice anything other than it was a line6 cab and i would imagine the speakers are going to be voiced with the line6 amps in mind. Could be wrong, i have a mesa4x12 and a bogner OS 2x12 with v30s. When i first got the bogner it jumped out at me that it seemed to have a bit more bite and seemed a bit brighter. As they say speakers need to be broken in. Indeed , it was brand new when i got it. Had it for several years now and it doesnt seem to be different in that regard when compared to the Mesa with the English v30s. Both sound great. I would not expect the line 6 to sound the same as it is not oversized and maybe not same quality of birch wood used if the line6 was birch, cant remeber. It sounded good with the modeling amp it was designed for. Not saying i would not use with another head but its not going to be what i reach for unless its theline6 head

I agree v30's are v30's I don't really think it matters what cab any speakers are I think it's the quality of the speaker over the quality of the wood

I have a Stiletto 412and a Peavey 412MS with 2 Hellatone 60L's and 2 V30's. It's been a few years since I A/B'ed them directly. I don't remember them sounding vastly different.
