Value of early Tom Anderson guitars?

Older ones actually tend to be cheaper than newer ones. There are a few exceptions, but that's the case for the most part.

A couple of years ago I found what I thought was a pretty good deal on an "older" Anderson .... I contacted Tom w/ the serial # to get more details on the build and he told me that based on the price that was being asked ( I "think" around $ 1,999 ) that he thought his newer models were a MUCH better value ....

The model I was looking at was before the 2-bolt neck joint, stainless steel frets, etc;

So, I passed ....

Market will determine value, not forum opinion. Seems a bit high to me as well, but if somebody bites then I guess it's not.
The most sought after 80's Andersons seem to be the bowling ball finishes and Anderson built Rand guitars.

I laughed when I saw those; I've owned old ones, and absolutely believe the new ones are better.

No "vintage mojo" to be had; Anderson's quality has only gotten better.

Yeah, I laugh at those eBay prices. And Tom's guitars get better and better--but those old Anderson headstocks were cooler.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I'd take two new ones over a $5k+ old one any day of the week...

Those guitars have been on there forever and always get relisted. Those sellers are smoking crack.

I am one of the biggest TAG fanboys and I would say that those guitars are not worth the inflated prices. No way! They are nice but not worth that cost. I would much rather build out a custom guitar to my specs.

If they've been listed many times before and still haven't sold, then there's your answer.

I would pay extra for the old headstock ,before they switched to the Kramer look.

I love the older headstocks. I have an '89 GAL and it's the best guitar I've ever played. Period. His new guitars are nice, but no other guitar I've played speaks to me the way that '89 GAL speaks to me. Maybe a fluke with that one guitar? Dunno, never played another early Anderson. But if I had any interest in 6 stringers any more, I'd be happy to shell out big bucks to find out.
