Thinking hard about buying one of these. Anyone played or own one? I've heard some all out metal high gain recordings that sound pretty darn good.

I had a VAC 22 1x12 open-back combo for a short while. It had really nice Bassman cleans and decent reverb. There was a lot of gain on tap, but the low end was very loose. The bass response is of course affected by the open back combo and speaker choice. I didn't have a chance to try it through a larger sealed cab. For the price, tone, and hand-built US design, the VAC is a good deal all around. As normal, your expectations will have a lot to do with how you perceive the amp. I personally wouldn't buy it for the high gain tones.
