Just out of pure curiosity, we all know by now that the early VH tones were a combination of any of the following things: phase,eq,echoplex boost, reamp, cascaded?,variac, solid state power ampsas outlined more or less here: http://www.legendarytones.com/brownsound.html (among other places)

How about now? Does he run those EVHIII heads through a solid state power amp? Where is he getting his reverb and delays from and is there any use of those echo plexes anymore? Wah,phaser, and flange are out front. What else is out there now? There is a lot of EVH tone bashing on this forum and while i love the old tones, I quite like his new live tones as well!

EVH tone bashing, really? Haven't really seen that... EVH bashing, yes.

Well a few people here have mentioned VH1 is fizzy sounding and the 1984 stuff is thin and buzzy. I personally dig the shit out of those tones.

My money is on the 5150 III (50 Watt mini or 100 Watt), Roland SDE-3000's for Stereo Delay, H & H Power Amp, EVH pedals, etc......his typical W/D/W setup. I just hope he keeps the Eventide at home like he did on the 2008 tour. I am sure that Mr. Friedman knows the lowdown.

Thanks BSP! I was really interested in hearing more about the poweramp use and bingo there it is. Does this make it somewhat like reamping?

+1

if EVH allows him to build the pedalboard/rack again this year i would hope pics would be posted again like last time

I will post if I can. Not sure yet. I did do a new rig but it's not much different then the 08 one.

He's used the same stuff for a very long time now. . .SDE3000s for delays, and a PCM70 for Cathederal and a third delay option. And, yes, the HH V800s have been his poweramp of choice for the last 20 years or more.

I'm curious to see what changes (if any) he's made for 2012.
