i played a few that were really great for the $$$

Played one the other day at GC it was solid even after slamming the trem a lot nice neck very comfortable and the tone was solid through an HT-40

The striped series are very good quality, it's much more expensive to try to build your own

ive never had a full basswood body...does it matter for those kinds of tones vs basswood/maple or alder?

This is why I wish they made them in solid colors. The stripes are cool, but just not for me.

Musikraft makes a Franky body and neck for $195.00 each...add paint, hardware, and electronics and you're there...Ed painted his own with acrylic laquer (spray paint), not nitrocellulose. And it wasn't glossy or pretty. And it would be made in USA, unlike the new EVH ones...

Thanks for the input , gonna try the musikraft stuff.
I did this with the Musikraft parts. They kick ass:

I'm redoing this guitar as a regular strat, so if you need a EVH Frankenstein pickup/pickguard piece, pots, beat up 5 way switch for the middle and fake red pickup for the neck, lemme know...

Steve

Mine I made w/ musikraft neck/body...

Took a month to paint.

+1 the best way

If you go the build your own route, I would suggest ash for the body wood

Musikraft's Franky body is northern hard ash...and it replicates the messed up humbucker rout that Ed actually made with a chisel, it's all deformed looking. They have it down to a science. They have strat headstock necks, Kramer beak necks, and bannana headstock necks to fit it depending on which look you like...the beak neck profile is the same as a new production Charvel Pro Mod series...and also my personal favorite headstock for a Franky...

KNE body, musikraft neck for me.. Duncan 78'' pickup.. and all the usual stuffs...

I just picked up a "Kramer era" guitar from a guy in my area and believe the guy he bought it from went with Musikraft. It is one of the best guitars I have and nails the Eddie feel. I'll have to post a picture sometime and even a clip or two. The guy was so obsessed with Eddie, that he even had the headstock broken and re-attached because Eddie's was broke. :) I have the Original Floyd and neck feels great.

The "secret sauce" though is the EVH Frankenstein humbucker that I had the guy put in right before I bought it. Such a great pickup. Just smokes!!

Can you see that neck isn't on straight ? The photo of the guitar in the case from the bridge looking up the neck...look at the low E string...it's at an angle...
